I recently bought a HT5400 model with 7.1 channel speakers. Amplifier is R590 that comes as HTiB.

After some usage, the amplifier goes off... into stand-by mode.... when i again switch it on... it again switches off. But i have observed random behaviour. Initially i observed that after 2 hours of usage(at normal 30 volume), when it gets little hot... it goes off and then on switch on, it goes off again with time to switch off decreasing with every on-off. It happens almost every night with me.... i usually use it at night.... usage is normal.
Last night, i observed that after 1 hour of usage it went off.... and when i switched it on.. it worked fine for next 2-3 hours without going off.

Anyone else faced this issue? What might be the problem. Any pointers.
I had a word with service center guys and they are asking me to bring the hw to their service center which for me would be real PITA.

Experts help.

This tripping may be due to the heating, where have you kept it? is it getting enough surrounding air to dissipate the heat?

Yes man. I think there is enough space for air to pass through.
I have kept it in a wooden case with 6-7 inches space on all sides.. with front side fully open.
I don't think this issue is coz of heating as when the system goes off, it is not too hot.. just warm. Also as i mentioned, it sometimes doesn't go off even on high heating and goes well for 3-4 hours.

Got a call from the service center. The guy told that after consulting their chennai team, they concluded that the problem might be coz of voltage fluctuation. although i have a 1kva ups connected to amp, do i need any CVT or other instrument to check if its really coz of voltage fluctuation.

I suspect it to be due to high/low voltage. All AVRs have builtin shutdown feature when the voltage is not within a predefined limit. My avr will shutdown when the voltage falls below 150V.

But that is what my actual problem is. The amp does shut down randomly... sometimes it just works normally. Although i am sure the voltage spikes are not to low/high.

Symptoms look like a overheating issue, even though you may not feel it on the outside.
This happens a lot with laptops too.
This will get worse with time. Since it is still in warranty, better get it serviced with Onkyo asap.

If this is a heating issue, then will using cooling fans help ?
And also, for heating issue, what will the service center guys do, i will have to take necessary steps to get things work in cool env.. right ?

You can check whether it is working fine after keeping a table fan to cool it.
If the problem persists, it could be something else.

Am no Expert but I just had a thought..
Could it be because of any loose contacts .. or the power chord from the AVR to the UPS be faulty??? that could explain the reason for the AVR not switching off as you informed in the last line 'Last night, i observed that after 1 hour of usage it went off.... and when i switched it on.. it worked fine for next 2-3 hours without going off.'

No man... atleast i make sure there are no loose connections.
Itna bhi noob nahi hu mei :ohyeah:

Lols.. Cmon i didnt mean that... Kabhi Kabhi ho jaatha hai!! . you overlook couple of things and search for something major.. while the solution will be lying right in front of you.!! .. so was just hoping it would be that small ... ;)
