Onkyo nr-609

Dear All,

I am just thinking of getting Onkyo NR-609 ,checked with price at one of the onkyo dealer at Dubai quoted me 740 USD ,after bargain he is ready to give at 690 USD ,my requirement is 20% audio /80 % Movie, presently going to be used with existing my Sony 5.0 Speaker later will be getting Sub ,as am staying in rented flat room dimension doesn't matter right now, in future will think about the good Speakers.

I have red so many articles and gone through lot posts on hifivision forum and cnet review.

in Some forums Found that onkyo is not advised for Movie and Music its good for Movie only,some says it better.

My Request to All Onkyo 608 Owners ,please write little about your experience with onkyo 608 considering Movie and Music as i am little confused to go for onkyo nr-609 or Yamaha RX-V667 and if any members already got nr-609 or RX-V667 please post your reviews.

Any Suggestions.

Note : i will not be able to Audion 608 or 609 as i stay in remote place.

First of all, i dont think u can blindly assume 609 would be equal to 608 in sonic signature...one year is a big period in HiFi and as such, today's king can be beggar tomo and vice versa.It might be very much better than 608 but sound signature maybe different.So, i humbly request u to wait out for sometime till reputed reviews come out for the same.

Now about 608, I havent got THAT much time to play around as i got it only a month back...but its a real 'monster' from the brief encounters i had with it.It roars,it spits, it bites....to sum it up,it simply ATTACKS u and does it phenomenally as well.Now u can't think a monster to sing a melody for u,right?? Jokes apart, it ain't that bad with music reproduction, but coming from a Yamaha 663,i can really feel the reduction in the warmth of the tracks ,especially vocals.

Mind you,the Yamaha is no slouch in movie processing,it can do some heart-pounding effects and huge sound stage but this Onkyo simply does it better-mainly with the surround processing/steering effects and subwoofer.Channel separation is better and center channel is clearer.Yamaha is very natural sounding with vocals,smooth,warm and calm if i may say so while the Onkyo can feel a bit powered/artificial which makes it more suited for movie purposes rather than music reproduction.

PS:All these are IMHO and as such, take with a pinch of salt...and oh,dont believe anyone except your ears

ya that's why am waiting for few more days to see some reviews ,then will dig for all user reviews on the net ,later will decide ,initially i was made up my mind for 608 ,when i heard new line of onkyo will be releasing in 2011 ,then i thought of waiting for some more months, as i cannot buy another receiver after one or two ,so just looking for better receiver ,at least 5-6 years i can use it.

Anyway thanks for your inputs.

Here we go,

I have brought Onkyo NR-609 at Dubai ,one of my friend is brought it, he is going ship it within a week ,so it may take 15 days time reach me by next month Mid.

I paid for onkyo NR-609 - 2520 dhs (App 690 USD)
VHD Speaker Cable - 35 mts role - 299 DHS - (85 USD).


Will post update once i receive.
