Then you would not get the info and dsp displayed on the TV. Source should be through HDMI

Welcome. If you can get a media player like shield or zidoo then you can connect the player directly to avr through HDMI and the HD to the player. This is the best way to get the most from your avr interms of performance related to audio and video
