Options for Book shelf Speakers (must be under 30k)

Looking for Book shelf speakers for my new home. the hall is in a typical L shape format with dining area. it's not a very big hall...must be around 10 by 15.

Im looking to build my my system from scratch and would liek to start from speakers.. i would prefer bookshelf or satellites / Subs Combo.

I'm lookign for a smooth sound with crisp and effortless mids and rich highs. i dotn expect this to be a bass thumper..but somethign which would compliment a sub to bring a house down if required.

I listen to Maroon 5 to George michael to sepultura to Digital talk to Aretha F to Tears for fears to Infected mushroom to all tht sounds good. but, upbeat music gets most number of plays.

Which companies do i shorlist...? would be grateful if someone could lead me to their dealers in Mumbai.

one a side note, does these kinda of newbie posts need to be posted in some other section of this forum.... please advise. i dont want to tire out the veterans with these repetitive questions.

go for wharfdale diamond 9.2 for rs 15000 plus center cs9000 + sub sw150 cs rs 16000.u will be paying extra 9000 for centers .it is great combo.

thnx guys. by bright, if you mean, tinny, then no, i dont like those kind of speakers.. in the end, i would like my system to be bass and mids rich with a wet sweep of high.

Since you are in mumbai you can audition many brands ... So start auditioning with your music cds (choice)... You will know which are the best for your listening.....

For your hall size, sonic-preferences and 30k budget-limit, I would strongly recommend Usher S-520 bookshelves. You can PM our forum member "Odyssey" /Mr. Sridhar (he represents Usher Audio in India) regarding where you can audition these speakers in Mumbai.

PSB, MS & Quad's look to be the favorites here within the range that i have. i have now very seriously considering Usher 601 too !

i one question - Due to space constraints in my new home, stands are out of question. however, ido have the luxury to do the interior in an apt manner. at the same time, i dotn wish to go for a rear firing book shelf speaker as i understand these needs ot be palced least 2 feet away from wall. i dotn think i can allocate such space as it would eat into lot of space.

Also, should i keep these speakers at ear level? or could i angle it from a height, facng downwards, in this case it would be closer to the wall and would be suspended by a fixture.

Jenson, Placing them at ear level is the best way to go about it, no doubt.

They should sound good as PSBs are neutral speakers.

try and go for front ported speakers . I think wharf 9.2 is a front ported one. But do try the music you listen to normally on this speaker.

One of the things that comes to mind is the PSB Alpha B1. Priced about 15k a pair.. this should be a good choice too. The Paradigm Atom Monitors should also be along the same price range about 14k.

Ofcourse you should hear with your ear and only then buy.

Maybe Lakozy can help with the PSB B15 or B25 ( some old stocks maybe ). These are good too.

A first round of auditions and visiting few dealers will help in making up your mind.

PSB B15 and B25 look amazing! im now all the more intrigued... how does these compare to mORDUANT SHORT mezzo series...are PSB's considered far superior?
