Optoma HD141x HD / Full 3D

After a long drawn process of research, re-research and addicted combing of every post in the 37 pages of Optoma 141X forum, I finally hit the Submit button on my order with Amazon.

Many thanks to all the pioneers who have cleared the way for us to follow - by giving us invaluable advice on the product's review, international shipping, duty, etc etc. Notably htfan17, Aquarious19, and many others whose names I dont recall.

I was charges around 52.2K for the entire package - PJ(38k), Shipping(~2k), duty deposit (~11k)

I heard in some earlier posts that the entire duty has been refunded to some folks who ordered after April..... Is that true in all cases?

Target date of arrival is July 6th. Till then, eager anticipation and off to buy an HDMI cable of 35 ft, and also 3D glasses. :)

Sorry I got Aquarian09's handle wrong... but thanks to all for their guidance..

I have a question about the exchange rate that Amazon uses... The exchange rate in the calculation comes to 67 odd, whereas I checked in all other places including RBI which shows the rate to be not more than 63.6.

Anyone else faced this problem?

Thank you....

Ha Ha it has already started eating my brain:D..... And the thing about the long HDMI cable too since I am seeing some issues with many people. I need about 35 ft HDMI cable since the PJ and the wall on the opposite side are 35 ft apart. Based on others' feedback the BlueRigger seems to be good.

No, I did not get the email regarding the refund.... Good you warned me about being proactive about sending the email.

I guess I spoke too soon......

Just as I closed the previous session and checked my email I get this message from Amazon Customer Service
=======================================================
Hello,

I understand that you were overcharged for the amount of $48.98 for the item, I've to issue a refund for $48.98. But right now I'm unable to do so because I checked your account and see that your order has not yet shipped.

As soon as your order is shipped I'll issue a refund of $48.98

I've set a reminder to get back to you on July 3, 2015 regarding our conversation today.

I appreciate your patience while I continue to work on this matter.

I look forward to following up with you soon.

Best regards,
Balaji P.

I guess this Balaji is based out of Hyderabad :ohyeah:

I think this is not the refund of the customs duty, but probably the price has reduced... Anyway, I will take any refund I can get :D

Hi Friends,
With all good about Optoma HD141X DLP projector I am also considering this PJ for my HT.

Thank you all for starting this thread and posting real time facts abt this PJ..

Before buying that I would like to get some ideas on these queries

1. What would be the height of the projector from the floor?
2. How is the manual Zoom of the projector?
3. Does this PJ has internal memory to store my settings?
3. Recommend some 3D glasses need to be with this projector. I will order the same from amazon.

Regards,
Samrat

The height depends on your set up; you could mount it appropriate to the screen dimensions. Since this is a basic PJ, you won't have the advantage of any lens-shift adjustments. So, it is important to get this right in the first set up.

Zoom is very restrictive, so again it is vital set it right at the beginning.

Some how the PJ initialises too often for me, going back to having to input basic info like language, eco mode etc. The downside is I will never know what the correct lamp hour usage is, since it resets this too when this happens.

I found hishock glasses (after testing another one) to be pairing very well with 141x. Many have found it very satisfactory. I got them for 1900 each.

In all, despite the difficulties, I think this 3D PJ is a great value for money. It will perhaps depend mainly on how well you get to know the instrument when you use it.

The HDMI cable was a pain for me. Yes BlueRigger is a great cable if you are going for more than 15Ft since they have repeater built-in for 20Ft above cables.

I had to buy a the repeater seperately and attach 10ft + 5Ft cable. I agree with the zoom thing, you have to get the setup correct if you are wall mounting it else like me, you'll have to take it out again and mount it again with the correct setup.

But honestly, for the money, i dont think there should be any complain, the Blu-Ray movies are absolute treat to watch, I have yet to watch 3D on this (Not a fan of 3D movies).

I am regretting buying 106" screen for this, i should have gone for 120"!! :ohyeah: That's my next upgrade in coming months!! Using Harman Kardon AVR and JBL Speakers as HT set-up for now, so it's pretty awesome!

Here is the mail from amazon

Guys,
i see this thread is active. So hopefully i get my queries answered :-).
2 weeks back i purchased optoma hd141x, on my short visit to US. Got it for 650$. So far good and it was totally unplanned.

Problems started once i reached hyderabad, and setting it up in my bedroom. It is 12 10 feet.
Two questions.
1. Distance.
At 12ft distance, what is min and max screen size i can project?
I tried, but am not getting less than 80inch.
I can change mode to native, and with -5 zoom, to get 60inch, but there is shade on four sides in 80inch.

2. Projector screen.

I ordered Carls flexigrey screen 4071.
I don't understand how to use it. It's like rexin, soft pvc material.
If i can't use it as map type screen, i want to make 60inch wooden frame and fix. But again there might be distance issue. At 12 ft i may not get lesser than 80inch.

Please give your valuable suggestions.

Thanks

Was this before 01 June? If it was after, did you see any tax warning?
Check this thread. Maybe all new buyers should take care.

I think there is a lot confusion and misinformation floating around.......

The fact that you pay duty is itself the tax. There is nothing that you have to do over and above that. And Amazon automatically adds the duty deposit to the final price.. So far so good.

Now when the item is actually being "carried" by the carrier they pay the duty which has already been added to the price. The point we are discussing is whether there is a break in duty, which ultimately will come back to us, in the form of a refund.

Some people have got the refund and some have not. That is what I had inquired about... I placed the order on June 29th. Some folks are saying that after April 1 duty is being refunded. I dont know if it is uniform, or with ALL carriers.

My carrier is Aramex, according to the order tracking link

Hope this clears the confusion

I have been an ardent buyer from Amazon.co.uk for the past 12 years, but was always reluctant on Amazon.com. Well, I decided to order from them recently.

I bought Optoma HD141x ($839, including the import fees $187) in April shipped through DHL as well as Poirot Bluray Box (INR 14775 including import fees INR3285) in June shipped through Aramex. Taking cues from this very helpful forum, I obtained the customs invoices from both carriers. There were small but definite differences between what the carriers paid to the customs and what I was actually charged as deposit with Amazon. I wrote to Amazon about this difference in the Projector case, to which they promptly replied saying, as a good will, they would refund the entire $187. In the case of Poirot Bluray, I did not take any action since I was busy, but to my pleasant surprise, today I received a mail from Amazon saying they would refund the entire import fees deposit of INR3285 as well. I am yet to get any cash deposited back in both these cases, but I believe it will happen in a few days time.

While it is difficult to draw any conclusion, I thought the above information will be of some use to our forum community. Way to go Amazon!

Beg to differ. Customs duty is different from the tax component. The duty is purely on the Exim products while tax is something levied on literally everything. The former is to discourage people buying foreign objects, while the latter is about revenue generation to the government.

Yes i agree with Neel on this part.

I got the total refund of 12K customs duty, but i had to email them about it first. My carrier was Aramex.
