Pairing Topping TP20 with PSB Image B5 Vs. Alpha B1

Hey Guys I am having a huge dilemma.

I purchased the topping TP20 and an going to buy speakers in the next couple of days.

I have basically found in reviews that the TP20 pairs well with the PSB Alpha B1 and with the older Image B15's.

What I want to know do you think that the topping would be adequate to drive the new Image B5s?

The problem I see is the Alpha B1s and Image B15s were rated 10 -90 watt and the Image B5 is rated 30-130watt.

The TP20 is a 20 watt amp that only puts out 13 clean watts at 8 ohms.

I cannot audition the topping with these speakers.

Also is nominal impedance the one I should be looking at not minimum impedance? PSB lists minimum as 4 and nominal as 8ohm.

Would suggest that you go through the Topping Thread on this Forum. All your queries would get answered.

Why is it that you have to look for 'only' PSBs, that too knowing the model is with 4 O impedance? Any specific reason?

I was looking at others as well including paarticularly Klipsh B20 and Wharfdale diamonds.

Ultimately from the research I did I really liked the PSB and to be honest would like to be able to take them out of my room and use them in the the living room. (I know the others are all okay with this too but just liked the PSB reviews).

Also the nominal impedance is 8O??? Isnt this the impedance I should be noting? Not the minumum

Begging your pardon .... what kinda research did you do? ... obviously, theoritical. A lotta 'practical' research reports you would find in the Topping thread here ... where some guys (me!) have virtually carried the Topping to audition maybe a dozen pairs of BS speakers. Many here have also found the Topping to be a fanatastic match with their full size FS too.

So, go through the thread ... you would get numerous other tried-out ideas. Of course, if you are hell bent on PSB ... carry the 'match-box' and conduct your own auditions with the PSB before getting them!

Just to make life a little simpler for you newtoaudio90, I have tried the topping tp20 with Wharfedale 9.1s, and i felt that the pairing resulted in brilliant and precise bass and mids however, i felt the highs were a little sibilant. It caused a mild high fatigue and it was a little piercing.

Just my impressions.
