Party Bookshelf recomendations.

You need to listen to a pair of Dalis before you make up your mind.. JBL with all due respect is not the best introduction to hifi for a 9 year old..or maybe it is :)

Shanti/Bhagwan had spoken very highly of turbosound ... I think it should be able to take a lot of rough use and produce the paint stripping sound that your kid would soon migrate to as he gets older.

Bhagwan's recomendation is a big feather in the Turbosound's cap.

I dont expect this apple to fall far from the tree. When I was in my teens I had collected a motely combination of floorstanding and large bookshelf loudspeakers (I think it was 10 pairs) and power amps and via a home made multi-amp driver (using LM324 op-amps) had driven a wall of speakers (2 stacks of speakers each being about 4 feet wide and 8 feet high) to levels that could be heard at least 250m away. Oh yes I fully expect to enjoy him drive his mom nuts. I'll gladly fund this mis-adventures. My dad did (for me).

Dalis? which ones?

I started out on Philips drivers. Then graduated to JBLs and UREI, then to Dyanudio, Focal, Morel, Vifa, ScanSpeak etc...

Dont bother with the Dalis .. they arent meant to drive anyone nuts.. maybe the megalines but the others are not for the purposes required.. but should you be interested try to see if you can find a pair of zensor1s

I have asked my friend to bring the 4312s when he comes in April. They are 4312E. I figured my son can really let them rip. He'll get a bit more headroom if he uses it with his JBL Sub.
