Pay per channel on DishTV

I am a member/moderator of another forum and we had a member who could not hear anything bad said about Reliance Broadband. Had to ban him multiple times. In that forum too, we get people promoting some product and would simply criticize others. Well, what can one say. I guess we get the good and the bad.

Can't help being philosophical again - Noise is an inherent difficulty in democracy. Good democratic citizens should use judgment to separate noise from fair criticism.

There is no way we can completely solve this problem. Good mods will keep blocking such accounts, but that's the best we can do. Making joining process lengthier makes it unfair to genuinely interested newcomers.

DishTV appears to be getting better at their unethical practices. I chose a set of channels from this pay per channel webpage.

DISHTV Pick By Channels,DTH Entertainment Services India

The total came to Rs. 160 per month, which is above the minimum stated on this webpage. When I clicked next, it said I'll get a callback within 24 hours. So far no issues. I got a call today and was told that in addition to this I'll have to subscribe a basic package at Rs. 100 per month. So my monthly charges will be Rs. 260  This webpage doesn't mention anything about Rs. 100 basic package.

well dude dish tv is a pro in duping customers. their actual channel count is also low if u discard dd direct plus channels for which they dont have to utilise any resource or money. dish tv, reliiance both r not for people who love honesty. airtel is good but their managing of things is not upto the mark.tata sky is the best of the lot giving excellent aftersales service and quality and i think even if u have to pay little extra its worth it. bcoz paying to companies like dish tv who fleece money, give bad service is a double edged sword pointing to ur stomach. stay away from dish tv
Dinkar - I agree with you, however TS should also try to somehow relay DD channels directly through their TPs so we get the best quality possible from them like we get in Dish TV because of this cost saving strategy (I find it as a very smart move from Dish TV in having TPs besides DD TPs and hence able to give ALL DD D+ channels this way which TS fails and is also charging for the lower quality channels).

Regarding pay per channel, they are obviously charging huge amount without bothering about how much other operators charge for those channels. However, even TS has DRC, PSEUDO 5.1 and PQ issue they need to take care of which they are adamant in not fixing. I am returning my Dish HD, but really want TS to fix these issues or I would return their connection as well once I see a better operator!!! These operators can not continue fooling ignorant customers and ignore strong feedback from those who complain on these issues.

Now DishTV is telling me that HD customers do not have pay per channel, although their pick-by-channel website contains HD channels. They keep getting better evertime :mad:.

well dear prankey firstly my name is namit . u know what i spoke to airtel team regarding technical issues. refarding drc and avl on sound, they told they give a range of -10db to -25db for sound and thats good enough, i kept on telling them that all high pitch effects get dimkmed and range should b increased but they told that current range is enough and if need b thaey will give more range(which i think they wont)
pic quality in airtel is also cracking in many channels, they tell they chek settings regularly but really it does not seem so, really manone person also told me after much of talk that to keep losses doen, more channels r adjusted in less bandwidth to save costs and which helps company in reducung losses aND REALLY i agree with their concern, prankey dear in india people want everything free or at cheap cost without knowing the costs involved in running a dth company right from broadcaster share to taxes both state and central, slaries of contract area teams and other employees, powercoss of so many king, tp rental which is in crores, out of rs 300 monthly subscription, dth operator mewrely gets rs 20 to 30 and thats why they try that customer stays with them longer or uses extra interactive or pay per view services
dude in such low revenue, in india services cannot b of high quality and honestly i can tell u only tata sky which folows strict code of ethics has managed to give excellent service, yes they have space issues due to which certain channels have average picture quality but surely once they overpower the constraints it will improve too. good thing is that tata dky does not compromise on quality. other operators just focus on increasing customer base and advertising them as best while tata sky from begining maintained a good balance between revenue and loyal sdubscriber base which has styed with them since long while in other operators people leave at early atages. infact brother try airtel dth and u will see how much they r compressing despite space availability to save bandwidth costs and also managment of things is poor. in totality tata sky silently works towards giving good service while other howl to capture attention. i think dish tv, reliance, sun direct will close down soon if they dont change their strategies.
tata sky will lead, airtel will also improve soon and videocon will also gain due to their good conect with customers but need to improve service qualitya dnaftersales. as i know about these and can predict, this is what my coclusion is
Your second half of the reply is again heavily biased towards TS for not many reasons. I agree that DTH operators struggle for revenue, however if that is the case, why can't TS (can't comment on Airtel as not auditioned till date) have spent huge amount in tweaking audio of all the SD channels and 2 HD channels with terrible DRC? Why can't they instead set the volume right on these channels and get away from any processing? Infact best is pass the original sound at original volume without any tweaking.

Talking of SD channel package, I believe Dish TV is still much cheaper than TS as they practically offer almost all the channels at around Rs.340 without such issue of DRC, mono sound or extra video compression on most of the SD channels and overall the PQ is better as compared to TS (I know some of us will disagree but I am speaking from my experience between Dish HD and TS+HD on my TV). Particularly in terms of Sound Quality, TS is doing lot of tweaking when only thing I have observed in Dish HD is them doing equalization on HD and upscaled channels for which I had complained as soon as they started.

Dish TV has extreme distortion on channels like Movies Now where heavy bass frequencies distort terribly and some high volume scenes (like action sequence, explosions, etc.) can damage our speakers. However they still don't do such hopeless stuff as DRC what TS is doing to avoid such issues what Dish TV is doing (equalization and incorrect volume is causing those distortions).

So, while discussing, you need to COME OUT of this TS is the best syndrome that you start scolding people who ALSO WANT TS to REALLY BE THE BEST and are irritated with few of their strategic BLUNDERS worst being DRC and MONO sound on several channels of all genre including 2 HD channels!

Talking on Airtel, I really feel pity that they want their subscribers to that 15dB range of audio when in reality it can be beyond 90dB! However, when I listened to TS, I also understood they are doing DRC with a narrow range like this only when they should completely STOP any sort of audio tweaking as PROFESSIONALS at recording studios have already mastered audio through all the processing for broadcasting and any further processing is nothing but BUTCHERING the intended sound.

After some more digging into several websites and a lot of discouraging communication with their customer care, I learned that paying Rs. 100 for FTA channels is compulsory for pay per channel option. The Cc unfortunately doesn't know which FTA channels will be available in this scheme. Under pay per channel scheme, the minimum amount a subscriber has to pay per month is Rs. 150. Hence we can choose any channels worth Rs. 50 and start pay per channel scheme.

I figured that this way I'll pay Rs. 150 per month and end up getting only Travel XP HD. To get Travel XP and Movies Now I'll end up paying Rs. 200 per month . So it's all useless. I am giving up on pay per channel now.

+1, its useless unless they atleast match pricing of TS pay per channel and offer TRUE 5.1 sound (unlike pseudo 5.1 what TS does for 2.0 content on HD channels).
