Hi all,
I am planning to buy my first flat panel(40"-42") and going back and forth between deciding which one. While I like plasmas (like X20, PJ350) which are real VFM, my family feels LEDs have higher 'clarity'. My personal opinion is that LEDs without 100/120 Hz sampling is not good enough, but they are a bit costly. But I really like the fact that they take half the power, so I can connect it to the Inverter without much worries. (plus no tension about IR and breaking in)
Saw this model on Amazon US:
Amazon.com: Philips 40PFL7505D/F7 40-Inch 1080p 120 Hz LED LCD HDTV, Black: Electronics
I have got a quotation from ICCWorld for about 48K INR(including duty and shipping) for this. Hoping that there wont be any addditional customs duty, total cost for the TV including a good 240-120 voltage converter (2K INR) would come to around 50K INR.
So my questions to the experts here is -
1) Is it worth to import this one considering that I wont get any warranty, (where as X20 - 35K with 3 yrs, PJ350 - 38K with 1 yr), and also similar models(EX710) here cost arnd 65K ?
2) In case 'something' happens, will I be able to get it services from local Philips(of course paying them)?
3) Does using a 240-120 converter increase power usage? Can I connect it safely to an Inverter?
4)Any other considerations which I am missing?
5)Although Amazon reviews are excellent for this model, anybody out there know anything about why this model is so cheap?
Ok, I guess enough questions for now Hope someone can help me make an informed decision. I am keen on saving the 15K compared to EX710, but only if it is worth the risk.
TIA
PS: My future HT plan includes a WDTV Live and Onkyo- HTS3300 or Yamaha YHT-393/493.
