I want to purchase an amplifier, either CA Topaz AM10 or Marantz PM 5005. The speakers which I will use is quite old - self built with a 10" Woofer, 5" Midrange and a dome tweeter with a passive crossover network, housed in floor standing wooden cabinet.
Now it is not possible to audition either of these amplifiers with my speakers so I have to do guesswork as to which amplifier will drive my speakers better.
I like my music with lots of Bass and Treble. Will the loudness button on the Marantz be of help - the CA does not have one.
Has anyone any insight of this combination to help make my decision.

Carry your speakers. I dont think auditioning them with the above mentioned amps would be a problem with the av dealers. May be call up and fix an appointment for doing the same. CA is available with SKS Traders Sarat Bose Road. I am not aware if they keep Marantz also. and 10'' wooofer/driver s a good sized speaker. I think you willl need a powerful amp to drive these effectively. If they have a higher sensitivity (Say 90 dB or more) driving them wont be a problem.

Thanks, but carrying my speakers anywhere would require a goods transport vehicle because they will not be accommodated in any car. I don't remember the sensitivity of the speakers. It was so long ago and there is no data sheet available. All I can say is that it has been driven perfectly all these years with a COSMIC LAB 3000 which I now want to replace.

Hi Sir,

So You need to Look for the Amplifier which sounds similar to Cosmic. With your type of Listening (High Bass +High Treble), I would suggest Yamaha or Onkyo, they are Slightly Bright in nature and good in Bass as well.

Since you hav1 10 Inch Speaker, For sure you need good watts to drive them
