The need for a new desktop raised as my old one started giving problems and was becoming obsolete...

so started punishing google and also came in contact with one mr. Mathew Syriac who is a professional in computers and assembling in chennai, through our forum member capt. rajesh. Thank u sir for the reference.

The budget was fixed at 25k and the requirement was only generic and nothing specific, and will be used for ripping and storage extensively. after so many days of discussions and many additions and subtractions of the components we decided to go for AMD fusion based PC with the following components

mother board: Asus F1A75-V PRO price rs. 8,047.62

APU : AMD A8-3850 price rs. 6,857.14

cabinet : NZXT Guardian 921 RB price rs.4000

ram : corsair 4GB price rs. 1,380.95

SMPS : huntkey 500W price rs. 2,333.34

Hard drive : seagate 1TB price rs. 2,809.52

Optical drive : Asus DVD writer price rs. 1,095.24

add 5% VAT for above prices

Total rs. 27,650 + assembling charges which exceeded my budget :indifferent14:

All components were purchased from Ritchie street chennai except cabinet which is from the authorized showroom of Theitdepot - India's First IT Online Shopping Store

The system was tested with with 1080p bluray rips and 10GB games like dirt3 and performed well

highlight of the system is the latest CPU+GPU=APU concept which runs at very low temperature.

Hmm, I would be curious to know why you chose to buy AMD fusion. The MOBO+CPU cost you 15000. For that price, you could get a Phenom II X6 + MOBO (something like ASUS M5A88-M, there are other options but I am too sleepy to look up right now) and still have some spare cash. If you didn't want so much power, a Sempron might have done the job at 1/4th the cost. The beauty of the AMD system is that, unlike Intel, they have taken backward compatibility seriously. However, FM1 is new and it is too early to predict the direction that AMD will give it. It would have made sense if it was priced like ATOM, but the prices you quote sound more like mainstream CPU/MOBO prices.

With Bulldozer around the corner, an AM3+ board might have been a better investment.

thank u for depressing me in the 1st post itself I am not much into computers but i ll try to explain...

your cpu + mobo also costs 15k+ but have to add a discrete graphics card to do justice for that powerful combo and that costs put together may exceed my budget by miles...

i may not need power right now but someday if i wake up with the urge to try a newly released game, i should not feel bad for the sempron, moreover i wanted my new PC to be be actually new (read fusion) and i am not in a mood for any major upgrade for quite sometime.

.FM1 is new and it is too early to predict the direction that AMD will give it.

reading through internet i am quite confident that fusion is AMDs flagship (fingers crossed).

The direct competitor of the Intel Atom processor is the AMD Fusion C- and E-series. i have seen the A series being compared to i3s and i5s so its mainstream only.

The lowest Asus AM3+ board now is 15k. bulldozer also wont be cheap. this combo is for hardcore gamers and definitely out of my budget and requirement.

I am myself in the middle of assembling two PCs. One as a atom based dedicated music server and the other a moderately powerful desktop. I had an AM3 MOBO (Asus M4A88T-M) lying with me, so I am planning to just buy a Phenom x6 1100. If I was buying something new, I would have bought an AM3+ MOBO.

Many of the ASUS AMD boards have built in graphics. You will get something low end like radeon 4250 which is good enough for regular computing.

Have fun. Early adopters like you help the development of new technologies One good thing is that the CPU uses 32nm fabrication tech so it is in the same league as the sandy bridge. Heat dissipation will be much lesser than a Athlon or Phenom with similar processing capability.

well MSI has better boards for llano and they are less priced in compare to asus

can u explain in what way are they better?

the price what you paid for processor and board are very high

hmm can u refer anything with a proof so that i can show to my dealer (and get a refund)

all the products in ritchie st come with vat included so where is the question of +vat

in the invoice given to me, VAT was not calculated seperately but was combined and added in the end, i jus copy pasted the price

if you are using it solely for htpc then it would have been better with E350 processor.

never said that

llano is overkill for htpc and under kill for gaming

wanted the computer to do a bit of all as it would be used by all members of the family

its tdp is also very high

dont know what it is...

thanks for the info. we did consider AM3+ boards but they were not available at chennai . The Asus indian website also doesn't list these boards but smcinternational rocks...
