Reliance Broadband - Thunder 1099 Plan - 4 Mbps No FUP - Is it true?

Choose however you want but avoid Tikona. There are many complaints against Tikona in broadband forums.

Well said mate.
AVOID Tikona at any cost. I have to use it because I have no other alternative.

+2. Really bad service that goes down for hours and there is no customer service to speak of. I got it as a 2nd connection and from the 1st or 2nd day it would go down for hours. Cancelled after the first month...

I get about 800kbps to 1Mbps on reliance broadband 2Mbps unlimited plan. Never got more than 1.2Mbps since installation!

Guys, reviving old thread. I am currently looking for a better plan than my BSNL which provides 200 local calls + 20 GB @ 4mbps and 512kbps thereafter for 1700 (1450 + tax). I measured using speedtest.net and in the first 20GB quota it is 1.7 mbps only and thereafter it is around 400 kbps (instead of 512). The 20 Gb expires soon leaving the connection crawling at 400 kbps which is very good for web surfing but not suitable for streaming or p2p. I compared local cable net connection, Airtel and Reliance and it seems that Reliance plans are most lucrative. I will still keep the old BSNL connection downgraded to some phone-only option (preferably Economy plan for 300 http://www.calcuttatelephones.com/LL/LL_BsnlLandline_TariffPlans_BasicTariff.shtml) but am thinking of going with Reliance Thunder 1099 (1099 + tax, Welcome to Reliance Communications) which will collectively be still less than what I pay currently. I am not expecting 4 mbps but hope that with max contention ratio of 1:10 I will get at least 1 mbps. Is the uptime issue really annoying with reliance and how is the customer care. Would be good to know if someone from Kolkata is using Reliance.

I am using TATA Docomo wired
8Mbps, 1200, 50GB after that 512kbps

BTW its not always 8Mbps(Mega bit per second ~1 Megabype/s), it varies time to time. What other members have mentioned is true, though its getting better but broadband is still not cheap. You still don't have constant 8Mbps like at low cost, there is probably some sort of sharing happening within their infrastructure.

Just now i tried and getting 100KB/s whereas i should be getting 1MB/s, i am getting 10% of committed bandwidth :D. There are times it runs at 1MB/s

are any of these broadband providers providing IPv6 access?
Yes, but their adaption is very slow and service not much verified:
http://ipv6-test.com/stats/country/IN

I was in the IPv6 stack development team of the most popular OS. And 8-9 years hance, I don't see IPv6 even in most large corporate Intranet, leave alone public ISP...
Looks like all the hardwork is wasted and IPv4 is somehow surviving like Cockroach and Toads past their projected apocalypse

I get MTNL 8mbps plan, delivers almost as promised most of the time, Rs990 per month, on copper line, 28 GB per month allowance. it is called 8mbps plan on the website, and is not found in the main listing, but in a vague corner. that plus apple TV has made life good.

but MTNL is not available in Kolkta I believe

Is Reliance Broadband 3G based ?? I would not trust such broadband as the problem of 'Spectrum Contention' could be a limiting factor. Though it would be free from line disruption like landmine/Cable based boradbands suffer, the bandwidth provided would not be as consistent. Even with 3G connection on my phone, I face the same problem. 8Mbps FUP-free broadband in a 2000+ budget would be dream of any AV enthusiast looking for Streaming. even my 60GB ACT broadband reaches FUP limits very soon.

Reliance called me up to inform that wired connection is not available in my area. So called up next cheaper option docomo and surprisingly they said service is available. The rep will come tomorrow. Let's see. I liked their 8mbps plan with FUP 80GB for 1500 inclusive of all taxes something which airtel is charging 30% extra.

Hi,

I am also using Tata Docomo fiber optic 8 Megabits/s plan, i was supposed to get around 1 MegaByte/Second. I have been using it for 3 months now, it worked fine for first few days and after that trouble started, internet would stop working randomly and since January situation has been pathetic, now every other days i have to raise a complain as i getting speeds like 18KiloByte/sec since Jan. It could be an isolated incident but would advise reading reviews.

I think they are sharing bandwidth that could be the reason its cheaper than Airtel. After 1 month of cat mouse chase I am moving back to DSL 2Megabits/s.

Thanks dear for notifying. I finally took the internet of my local cable operator. It is called wishnet. I am using their wish power super plan for which they are charging 1350 all inclusive per month and get normal hours speeds of 1 mb/s up/down both guaranteed with no FUP. During 1am to 9am the speed is 8mb/s guaranteed again with no FUP for both up and down. I have measured the speeds using several rounds of speedtest.net and indeed everytime it matched to what was promised. Their max contention ratio is 1:1 may be that is why. I am impressed highly. BSNL seems now a broadband plan of 70s. What more during night time they offer max peering speeds of 35mb/s for cached downloads. So far highest download speed during night that I have received is 2.7 MB/s and upload speeds of 5 MB/s.

I finally gave up my TataDocomo broadband, they confirmed on call that they share bandwidth. They have fiber optic till locality and after that bandwidth is shared, even after fixing the slow speed issue i was having my connection was running at 50% speed. Since they confirmed that bandwidth is shared so i gave up and moved back to Airtel. I guess that is also the reason for low price of Tata broadband compared to Airtel.

only BSNL/MTNL can provide stable and reliable broadband service. these private companies can not give stable and cheap service, but they are miles ahead in advertisement. only maniac persons are trapped with private companies.

I had to drop BSNL last month and switch to Cable Operator provided Wishnet broadband. While BSNL was indeed reliable (nil downtime) and stable (speeds) but its FUP was killing me although there were other shortcomings like in a "upto 4mbps plan for first 20GB" they were offering max 1.7 mbps only (because of contention ratio being 1:10 or 1:15) and thereafter 512 kbps which was okay for normal browsing but poor for online streaming. And I was paying 1700 including the landline combo. So I switched to BSNL for only what they are better know i.r landlines and switched to local cable where they gave in writing 1:1 contention ratio. I am getting 1 mbps speed throughtout days and 8 mbps from 1 am to 9 am. I am satisfied and have no plans to switch to any of these providers in near future.

I think BSNL needs to rethink about its pricing strategy and understand its customer's needs.

As for Chennai, these are the below areas ACT Broadband is covered for now. Even Airtel does not have more than 4mbps plans in some area (especially in and around T.Nagar) Last I tried Tata DoCoMo broadband, very pathetic service. Disconnected within a week. Still searching for a alternative to BSNL but could not find reliable service provider for 10mbps or more plans in my area.
