Hi guys,

I am currently using Polk Rti 4 as my surrounds. I think they are fine bookshelves and are an overkill to act as surrounds.

I want to shift these to the drawing room along with my existing Denon 1707 AV receiver.

I am going for an Onkyo AVR to replace the Denon. With the Polk Rti 4 gone, I would like to go for some dedicated surround speakers for the Home theater room.

Any suggestions? Looking for something cheaper than RTi 4!

Polk RTi4 seems a good speaker...Which Onkyo AVR are you looking at ?....

Depending on your selection of Onkyo AVR, you can either reuse this speakers as Front heights (or) friend wide speaker for a more impressive HT performance since you have a dedicated HT room...

Thanks bud,

I already have the Onkyo 727. It is adequate for my HT room, and I am not someone who will keep adding amps and the like.

I really want to use my older Denon 1707 in the drawing room. I was thinking of using it with RTI 4s as they sound quite good while biamped. But then I would need to use something for the surrounds. Which is a good surround speaker (below say 12K).

Also, I have biamped my front floor standers, no more outputs for a front high/wide speaker now.

Cheers!

Since you already have a Subwoofer in place, you can remove the bi-amp from the fronts... This way you have the option of front wides (or) front heights...

I have used front wides with Audyssey DSX & they make the HT listening even more impressive... Anyways if you are not fine, you can overlook the above....

Understand your need for a BS for you other room....

You can consider @ Polk surround speakers OWM3... They should do for surrounds... Approx 14K...

Thanks a lot. I will try experimenting a bit before deciding on the surrounds.

That NR 818 is a good AVR you got going buddy.

Great...Thanx... Yes...818 is a very good AVR....Fortunate to have one..

I forgot to mention that I have an offer for a used pair of Sonodyne Sonus 2605 V2 for 16K.

Should I buy those instead for the drawing room? But the Denon 1707 is going to be anemic to power those monsters. Suggestions please.

I was tempted to buy the Onkyo 818 from Ebay India GEB and use it with a step-down, but got big apprehensive with possible warranty claims. :-( The AVR is only priced around 61K or whereabouts this way.

Sonodune Sonus 2605 v2 for 16K is a very good price :ohyeah:... The new ones cost approx 30K...

Please listen once before you can pick them up.... Looks like your Denon 1707 AVR have bi-amp mode for FS... So if you intented to pick the Sonodyne Sonus 2605, you should be able to bi-amp the FS comfortably....

I bought my 818 for 43K from Kuwait thru my friend.. Initially i too was worried abt warranty and other stuff, but considering that i am getting it for 50% less than retail price in India, went ahead... Also i have been using Onkyo AVR for the last 10 yrs....So that gave me the confidence to buy the 818...

BTW for how much did you buy the 727 ?

Anything specifically to listen for in the Sonus 2605?

Edit: Crapola, the guy won't sell the speakers now! #!#@@@

Hmmm.....Follow-up with person consistently & someday he might decide to call it off :ohyeah:

If you don't get the sonus, your options are less now....

Yes 43K :ohyeah: is very good price for a top of the line mid-range AVR....

Hi John

You should look at HiFi Ads section. There are some good speakers for sale, hardly used with warranty. You may just get lucky.

A beautiful, well-constructed speaker with class-leading soundstage, imaging and bass that is fast, deep, and precise.
