Restriction in importing electronic goods

Looks like import of electronic goods which are not certified by BIS is not permitted. Anyone know details on restrictions and impact on individual buying /import from abroad and bringing to India for personal use.

It does not specify for personal use. So guess people can still get stuff from abroad for "Personal use". Looks like it is a indirect way to increase sale of electronic goods via the genuine sales and distrubution network and thereby increase tax revenue. This will also slowly kill the "grey" goods market (and loads of black money).
