Hi,

I use Tata sky HD+ STB. I have connected the STB with LCD via HDMI. And for the digital audio part I have connected the STB via Optical cable to my Denon AVR-1604 (This AVR has no HDMI). The AVR displays "Dolby digital" and I am able to get dolby digital audio signals through the AVR and can enjoy the same in 5.1. But when I tune the non-HD channels I do not get any sound out of my AVR. It is evident that the optical cables have taken care of the digital audio signals, but how do I transmit analog audio signals to my AVR. (There is no audio out from the LCD). Help required in getting the right connections.

Please let me know.

Regards,
JAYANT

Hi,

I have a tatasky plus (non-HD) and I have connected its optical out into my denon AVR. Are you saying that non-HD channels only output analog sound? If that's so, how is my AVR able to play sound from all channels on my tatasky plus?

Maybe I interpreted wrong, please clarify.

AFAIK, the AVR will be able to give you "virtual" 5.1 Surround even when its receiving Stereo input. so for a Non HD signal source or a non 5.1 signal, the AVR takes it upon itself to channel the sounds to your other speakers based on its own algorithm.

My avr has a "PLII Cinema Mode" option which forces analog to surround setting. I have noticed that if the AVR gets pure 5.1 signal, then only will it show "Dolby Digital"
