Right now I am listening to ...

@Sharad: Second that miyan!! Allah hu is surely a fine rendering, how oft do we get to listen to such masterpieces in qawwali.

Right now listening to the wonderous Klaus Schulz played at the "Royal Festival Hall"

This one has amazing lows that literally make you take notice and identify that something is playing. Best heard at a silent late night when ur better half aint bothering you.

I am listening to MICHEAL FRANKS_ Sleeping Gypsy. it's a jazz , Brazilian music, and folk-rock. Michael Franks may be a bit of an acquired taste, a romantic, elegant album in bringing Brazilian music.

Michael Franks takes time to grow on you and his voice might sound monotonous to some but I absolutely love his music and have almost all of his music. His arrangements are truly romantic and he is best enjoyed after hours. He has Larry Carlton, Joe Pass amongst others backing him up and his music reminds me of the Woody Allen comedies of the 70s (He has worked on some of the movies for him).

"Singing In The Rain" - Jheena Lodwick

Singers like Jheena and Jacintha can pick up well known songs, and add a new dimension to them. The accompanying music is appropriate too. A very good recording.

Hariprasad Chaurasia - Moods - Night Melodies

The rendering here is mesmerising however the recording could definitely have been better. Sounds like some enthusast audio engr at the studio tried his hand at it.

John Mayall with Eric Clapton-Blues Breakers
Pretty good Album, this-Good recording & Good Music
Recommended.

Tassavur - Indira

Heard it in the car today.
What do you expect from a CD of an unknown artist, from an unknown label called "ART BEYOND BOUNDRIES", costing just Rs 125?

Not much, right? At least I did not have high expectations, but guess what, this was a surprise package. 5 out of 6 songs are good. Accompaniment is good too. Overall a modern sound, but a good collection of Ghazals. A sincere effort. Much better than the regular pop albums, which do not have much real content.

I keep buying these obscure albums, and some of them turnout to be good. I should probably start a separate thread on "good albums that were never noticed".

Thats a pretty good idea, Sharad.
Like Nike says-Just Do It !

Usually compilations don't apeal me, so i was a tad skeptic when my roommate and best buddy in everuthing egged me on in 2004 to pick this one up at planetM, hesitantly i glanced at the back and saw names like Enigma, Enya at the top and then some names those were totally unknown to me. Still we picked it up to give it a try, and man what a gem of a compilation it turned out to be, audiophiles and particularly people with a taste for new-age music, this one is something you always wanted from a new age compilation, complete well rounded deep and comforting.

Pure Moods - I
1. Return to Innocence - Enigma
2. Orinoco Flow (Sail Away) - Enya
3. Sweet Lullaby - Deep Forest
4. Oxygene Part IV - Jean-Michel Jarre
5. X-Files Theme - DJ Dado (DADO Paranormal Activity mix)
6. Tubular Bells Part 1 - Mike Oldfield
7. Sadness - Enigma
8. Adiemus - Adiemus
9. Crockett's Theme - Jan Hammer
10. Theme From "The Mission" - Ennio Morricone
11. Main Title Theme "The Last Emperor" - David Byrne
12. Yeha-Noha (Wishes of Happiness & Prosperity) - Sacred Spirits
13. Fire Walk With Me (Theme From Twin Peaks) - Angelo Badalamenti
14. Makambo - Geoffrey Oryema
15. My Wife With Champagne Shoulders - Mark Isham
16. Promise, The - Michael Nyman
17. Lily Was Here - David A. Stewart/Candy Dulfer

This album introduced me to some very fine artistes that i might never have dared to buy just looking at the covers, and taught me a lesson for life, that you can never judge the music by the cover art. :p

Sharad's post today reminded me of one of the most memorable nights of my ife that i spent listening to Pure Moods I for the first time as a 20 year old and it still continues to be one of my top favourites.

"Masters sing faiz"

@Sharad: picked up the "Masters sing Faiz" from landmark, once again had to settle for the EMI  yuck.

The first track as usual has the ecc crap engraved all over and is low quality. [all fellow audiophiles hit by the crappy Sony/BMG/EMI crap may know this].

That apart, i could not find the Two CD version you mentioned. This one does have the Hum Dekhenge by Iqbal Bano (Unfortunately this is the first track:mad:).

Thank you for the great recommnendation, could not find the Tasavvur though. Where did you pick it from?

Tks for the recc.
Is it av locally?

Nice thread this. There are some people I just keep listening to over and over. Like Louis Armstrong, Mark Knopfler, The Doors, Jaco Pastorius and Pink Floyd. Recently I started listening to Abida Praveen and Farida Khanum. Eric Clapton is another favourite.

On my way to work this morning, I was listening to Morrison Hotel.
