Samsung Plasma 51F5500 Owners Thread /Reviews/Discussions!!

Oops. Time for me to worry, as mine has also completed 7 years. Still running fine though.
I've used it exclusively for watching BDs or rips for the first 5 odd years and also started watching OTT platforms since 2019.
This TV has never ever been used for watching cable TV, so burn in was never on the cards.
Lets see how long it lasts .............
Nothing to worry. Please enjoy watching plasma and wishing you more years of happy watching.
I really miss my plasma.

My beloved plasma 51f5500 which I have been using with lot of care for the last 7 years ( One of the early purchaser in 2013) is not turning on today...The standby power light is blinking ( not continous but 2 blinks 4 times and after sometime it repeats). I have unplugged from the power socket and reconnected to another socket. But it is the same issue of standby power blinking. Internet search is poiting towards some power board issue. What could be the problem? Samsung customer care number is not working now may be due to lockdown. Is there any chance of repairing this issue as it was working without any glitch so far and it is in excellent condition as well.

Update:

Samsung technician checked the TV and told it is panel problem. There is no issue with power board. Since the panel is not available no repair is possible. Not sure what caused panel issue. I have taken care the TV well and the touch remote is also functional after 7 yrs of usage. Anyway I am glad that it served me well and enjoyed every moment watching the plasma.

Bought a 43inch Vu Cinema TV as a stop gap till I buy a better alternative.

If not already done, you should take a second opinion from a local knowledgeable technician.

Please let us know if you managed to find a good local technician, friends. Unfortunately, my Philips Matchline CRT has also broken down now and all calls to the so-called authorised service centers have been in vain. They refuse to even look at the TV to diagnose what has happened before reaching any conclusions. My request was always met with a "we do not service CRT anymore" response. So if you know anybody who is competent and professional in handling good equipment, please PM me. I'm willing to give them a try.

Not yet and I haven't actively tried to find one

They stopped manufacturing spare parts too. So the only option is fitting a working part from a scrapped piece of another crt tv set with some other defects dumped in a store's dungeons. Which city?

I am having the same amsung plasma tv and it seems to be a start problem. Could I get someone credible to service plasma tv in kolkata.

Thank you.

Hey guys,

How's it going? Anybody here wanting to part with their 5500? Just asking as I was wondering if I could harvest it for parts or just use it as a replacement for my TV.

Update: After calling multiple service vendors claiming to repair and/or being "specialists" for plasma TV service, all of them declined to call back after giving me some excuse or the other. As a last resort (should have been my first, actually), I called Samsung and booked a service. Someone from their local service affiliate visited our place and simply looked at the vertical lines and commented "Sir, panel is gone." I still insisted that he open the panel since he was there anyway and see if there was anything wrong with the ribbon cables or if he could spot anything else. He promptly open the back cover in my presence and confirmed to be that everything was in order and that the vertical ribbon cables were actually 'hidden' at the bottom of the TV and it wasn't easy to open or check those cables. He then called Samsung and explained to them what the issue was at which he got a response saying "that" part costed about 20k or so. However, it was not available for easy replacement at all.

So I'm looking for other alternatives until it completely goes bust before I can think of a replacement TV.

I have kept my non functional 5500 for more than an year. It won't switch on and could not get it repaired. Samsung technician checked and his diagnosis was panel is gone. So recently given to Flipkart while buying another TV for scrap value as it is nonfunctional.
I still miss the superior and realistic image quality what plasma offered. Could not find anything matching to that, may be OLED.

What were you offered as scrap value, Sunil? And what was your replacement TV. I also own an OLED and as good as the picture is, I'm a huge plasma fan and just want to continue using my 5500 until its end of days. Just looking at what other alternatives are available to get rid of the vertical lines.

It is just Rs.200 as per the flipkart exchange for non working tv. I have bought 65inch Vu GloLED for now. Do not want to invest in 65inch OLED now as I find the price quite high.

I am facing issue with my LG OLED, which has a dead panel just after 7 days of expiring extended warranty. I have briefed my experience here .

Has anyone faced similar issue with Samsung, and I would like to know how is the experience with them?

This is the Plasma thread started when plasma was in focus.
There are some dedicated OLED threads where you can post to get feedback from OLED users.

Purchase the Audiolab 6000A Integrated Amplifier at a special offer price.
