SET MAX HD, Star Movies HD, Star Gold HD Test Started in Tata Sky

Just saw the DON movie few minutes and yes the movie realy looks HD quality but I'm sure the audio is not DD5.1. Ist just stereo sound vocal si coming from center and same music and other sounds from Rear and Front speakers.
Any way I'm very happy to have Star HD channels and Realy Hats off to Tata Sky for providing them in same old price 30Rs per month:clapping:

Coz both r english movie channels. and this was the reason TS didnt add Movies now.

Isn't that a funny reason. That could be acceptable if both channels belong to STAR. These two channels belong to two different Groups and both are carrying completely different Movie Catalouge.
Does that means we can never see HBO HD in TS?

Well as der r only 2 True HD channels dont expect Movies now anytime soon. I am not saying it wont come. But it mite take some time.

Yes audio jitter is very annoying. I remember Nat Geo HD or Discovery HD used to have this issue initially when they launched in HD. Hope they will fix it faster than earlier.

Jitter exist on Nat Geo HD and someone here has reported it on Discovery HD as well. I am observing it on almost all channels since past 2 weeks!

Also, Star Gold HD has SOLID TATASKY LOGO! Ideally logo should be embedded on the STB instead of being broadcasted. Hope they fix it soon.

Movies on Star Movies HD are cropped like in Movies Now! So atleast some of us are definitely going to be disappointed. Hope they start broadcasting without any cropping like in Star Gold HD.

Its Rs 50 per month not Rs 30

Jignesh Bhai when I opted the tata sky HD pack in early feb this year that time it was 30rs for HD pack and they are still deducting 0.99p perdays for HD pack from my account. They revised it to Rs50 next week after I got my HD plus box but it seems Tata sky has not increased the rate for exisitng customers.:yahoo:

Are you able to see appreciable differenece (Start Gold vs Star Gold HD) in the picture quality on the new HD channels? I want to know if they are really broadcasting from a HD source and not upscaling it.

Someone said there is no ad, is it true for all the new channels?

Star Gold HD has a different feed altogether, a true HD one, the content is different too.

Isnt it great... TS launched 3 more channels in HD format... Star Gold, Star Movies and Star World. Star Plus was already in HD mode (i guess it was upscaled SD)... Guess that has also now gone to 1080i HD mode.

Truly, life is now Jhigalala...

Star Plus was already in HD mode (i guess it was upscaled SD)... Guess that has also now gone to 1080i HD mode.

Yes Star plus was in HD but I could not differentiate betwen the quality of Star HD and non HD channels.

Older Star Plus "HD" was NOT an HD channel. It was the same Star Plus SD channel with upscaled video and TERRIBLY converted DD5.1. Now its coming PERFECT with proper DD5.1.

Star World was showing UPSCALED version of Koffee with Karan and had the same top and bottom bars of the wide screen version like in the SD version of Star World. Hope they atleast take the original 16:9 version. Though sound was far superior to the SD version.

Till now I have seen discrete 5.1 sound (without roaming/panning/fading) on all these 4 channels on all the programs (as much possible). However, I agree that TS or Star might be doing some "engineering" in the background as like in the Movie "Double Team" ending sequence music was coming primarily from Left and Center when it should atleast be a stereo in Left and Right on the original. But the main thing is, its not bothering like we saw in upscaled Star Plus, current Discovery HD and Max HD.

Video quality on all these channels are on par suggesting that TS seems to be passing original feeds from Star (like in Dish TV's Discovery HD and Nat Geo HD). Now Discovery HD, Nat Geo HD and Max HD looks significantly more blurred than these new HD channels. This difference in quality as I have emphasized several times as compared to Dish TV is more than what you would feel seeing these feeds between an HD Ready and Full HD TV's.

So its INCORRECT to say they have launched 3 more HD channels. Number is 4 NOT 3!

Man I swear to Star Gold HD quality ..... amazing absolute bluray ..... just blew me completely .... Star Movies HD is decent too, but the best star english channel is Star World HD ....tinch quality , ..... Star TV HD is a bonus as now they are transmitting the true HD with proper 16:9 ratio plus DD5.1 ... if you ask me the top HD channels are Discovery HD and Star Gold HD, then SET MAX HD (for ipl), NAT GEO HD, then Star Movies HD and lastly Star Plus HD ....... but still over all experience is amazing, you do not feel like going back to any SD channel after watching these HD channels ....... amazing and its far far better then Airtel HD that my BIL has so I have a fair bit of comparison. Enjoying every bit of TataSky HD ..... and the subscription price is kept same 30/m .....cool

OK another observation .... for star gold HD the content source also makes a difference, like for example I was checking "anjana anjane" and then "wanted" today evening and the quality was mind blowing, True HD. Then came "mein meri biwi aur who" and I clearly was able to make out that it was not true HD, may be DVD upscaled, and for what ever reason not even 16:9, so yes the source content also matters ................ unlike Discovery HD and StarWorld HD that have True HD all the time .... .... but I am not complaining ...... Anjana Anjani was looking gorgeous on my 47" Full HD LCD ...

Only Star Plus HD is full time HD content (again, I haven't seen it all to be damn sure).

Several serials on Star World HD like Friends, Whose line is it anyway, Koffee with Karan, all the cartoon series, etc in streched 4:3 (like upscaled channels - better PQ and much better SQ).

Similarly several movies in Star Gold HD and Star Movies HD are in 4:3 SD (some even in original 2.35:1 presentation in 4:3).

I personally feel that they could have atleast process some of these content to fit well in a 16:9 aspect ratio even if they were upscaled. Doesn't make sense for a REAL HD channel to carry such distorted SD content.

Star Movies HD looks the best thus far. Like someone else mentioned, Star World HD and Star Plus HD suffer due to source quality. Right now, Rang De Basanti is playing on Star Gold HD and it doesn't look great at all.

All said and done, these channels are way better, in fact no comparison to the SD channels.
