SET MAX HD, Star Movies HD, Star Gold HD Test Started in Tata Sky

Yes, but I really hope they convert the 4:3 mastered content to 16:9 as it doesn't make sense seeing stretched 4:3 SD on a 16:9 HD channel especially the once originally having 16:9 or wider aspect ratio!

Any chance of these 4 channels coming soon in other HD DTH. Tatasky says they dont sell Hd boxes in kerala and even wont install it if i get the box from somewhere else:mad:

There is no art in installing a box. Simply remove your TataSky regular SD STB and replace it with the TataSky HD STB and it should work just fine. If you don't already have a TataSky dish installed, then simply get your local TataSky dealer to send a technician who you can pay a charge for installing the dish for you.

EDIT: Ofcourse you also need to remove your 'smart card' from the existing SD STB and insert it into the HD STB and then call TataSky to have them delink the old 'smart card' from the SD STB and get it linked to the new 'HD' STB. In case you don't have an existing TataSky SD STB, then you simply have to have them activate your 'smart card' and the new 'HD' STB..

I have subscribed to the HD Gold pack, where originally I got only DiscoHD, NGC HD, Start+HD (never see this) and event based HD broadcasts of sporting events (CWC, WC) Now that I am getting 4-5 additional HD channels, and considering I havent subscribed to their SD versions (SetMax, Star Movies & Gold) I wonder whether the Rs.30 I pay for the HD pack will be hiked or not. Watched "Prince of Persia " last night on ST Movies HD , damn! next best thing to watching in theater

Yes, Do the same as mentioned by Sanjay, remove the smart card from ur SD Box and Plugin in the HD STB.

Call the CC and ask them to pair the Smart Card with ur HD STB (Note down the Smart Card no and the Digicomp no) and ask them to activate the package. ;)

In his case he was asking CC to arrange for an installation, which is what they refused. I am quite sure, that if you simply request the linking of the 'old' smart card to the new 'HD' STB after delinking the 'smart card' from the 'SD' STB, they should have no problems in doing so.

Star gold HD seems to show a mix of upscaled DVD quality and real HD content. The good thing about star gold HD is that the original aspect ratio is maintained and even the upscaled DVD quality movie content looks way better than the SD content. There are annoying audio drop outs every now and then. Although the audio is sent as a DD 5.1 track, it seems that there is a huge variation in the quality level of audio between different movies.

OTOH, Star Movies HD seems to show movies with good quality DD 5.1 audio tracks, but with cropped 16:9 full frame. This is way better than the 4:3 crop on SD channels, but it still kills the feel of the movies sometimes. But then it is not done for all the movies. Now to figure out a way to disable the display of subtitles on the english channels.

Star Gold HD and Star Movies HD have audio drop outs randomly for SEVERAL SECONDS. Hope they fix this as its killing the experience.

Yes man!

though the Pix quality of Star Gold and Star movies have improved (some times looks like True HD!) but the sound drop out is beyond reasonable tolerance! Its pathetic. Lets hope this bug is fixed in quick time.:o:sad:

There is quite annoying audio drops in star movies which last for 10-20 seconds.

All these HD channels are currently Ad free, when do they start with Ads on these channels?

But still I don't understand why Movies NOW HD is missing when other DTHs are having them.

Truth of the matter is that "Movies Now" belongs to rivals Timesgroup and Star group is demanding very high uplinking fees from them [in HD]; secondly, they do not want their own TRP's to trip amd thirdly TataSky has a tie up with the Stargroup Network...... So we viewers are caught up in this business quagmire.

In fact I do not foresee TataSky offering "Movies Now HD" even in the distant future [hope I am wrong].

Can someone from Mumbai tell me what the best monthly package works out [not incl any South packages].

I have noticed audio dropouts on Star Plus HD as well, while watching Dil To Baccha Hai Ji.

Hi,

I have Tata Sky+ HD STB (HD DVR)

Is there any way to get 5.1 audio over HDMI cable?

I am getting 5.1 over optical audio cable

Thanks and Regards,
