Sharing my DIY 3-Way Speaker Build & Single Tube/Class D Hybrid Setup



Hi everyone,


I wanted to share my current 2.1 listening setup with the forum. I've been diving into the DIY audio side of things recently, and I’ve finally put together a system that I'm really happy with, blending custom-built speakers with a mix of tube and Class D gear.


Here is the breakdown of my current chain:


The Speakers: Custom DIY 3-Way


I built the enclosures for these with my own hands, which was a highly rewarding project.


  • Tweeter: Ring Radiator
  • Midrange: HiVi B4N
  • Woofer: Doogesound
  • Crossover: DE180R-07 3-way crossover. I didn't have the means to custom fine-tune the crossover network from scratch, so I had to go with the standard tuning on this board. Despite that, they blend surprisingly well!

The Source & Amplification Chain


  • Streamer: Arylic S10+
  • DAC: Aiyima T8 Pro. The single tube stage on this DAC does exactly what I need it to do—it really smooths out the high-frequency edge and adds some warmth before hitting the power amp.
  • Preamplifier: Fosi Audio ZP3
  • Power Amp: Aiyima A07 Max. This little Class D amp pushes plenty of clean power to the 3-ways, and the tube DAC inline really helps tame the clinical nature of the Class D topology.

The Low End


  • Subwoofer: 8-inch Bia Acoustics driver housed in a properly tuned custom enclosure.
  • Sub Amp: I'm running a TPA3116 100W Class D subwoofer amplifier board to power the 8-inch driver. It handles the low-end perfectly. (For those curious, it's this specific board from Dhruvpro).

ture is fantastic. It handles my usual rotation of classic rock tracks and hip-hop hits beautifully—the single tube gives the rock guitars a great organic texture, while the dedicated tuned sub enclosure keeps the hip-hop basslines tight and punchy without getting muddy.


I'd love to hear your thoughts, or if anyone has experience tweaking standard crossover boards for specific drivers, I'm all ears!

hi....good job of it. Nice to see a 4-way build taking the subwoofer into consideration.
Read the crossover specs, it states the cut-offs are at 3500 hz (high pass for tweeters) 1200-3500 (bandpass for midrange) and below 1200hz for the woofers.

Your choice of drivers are a little off for thje above xo.
The Hivi midrange responce curve shows a nearly flat impedance curve from 100hz to 1 khz, it starts to peak from 1.5khz, so letting it play till 3500hz is not recommended. Similarly with the bandpass (highpass) at 1200hz, there will be lots of overlap between the chosen Hivi midrange and the Doogesound woofer.
Actually 1200 to 3500 is a poor bandpass design for a 3-way crossover. Ideally it should start from 300hz to atleast 450hz.

Anyhow these are just congectures, however do try your hand at some other xo that offers a wider bandpass for the midrange.

Thanks for taking the time to share your feedback! I think there might be a small misunderstanding regarding the components I’m using, which changes the math quite a bit:
Correct Driver: I actually used the HiVi M4N, not the B4N (that was a typo in my original post). The M4N is a full-range driver with an effective operating frequency that remains stable up to 4000Hz. Because of this, letting it play up to the 3500Hz mark is well within its intended design parameters and doesn't suffer from the peaking issues you mentioned.
Crossover Specs: The Doogesound 3-way crossover I’m using actually has cutoffs at 700Hz and 3500Hz.
Overlap: With the woofer crossing out at 700Hz and the M4N taking over from there, the bandpass range is much wider than the 1200Hz–3500Hz window you cited. This setup minimizes the overlap and allows the M4N to handle the critical midrange frequencies more effectively.
I appreciate the insights on crossover design theory, but based on the actual specs of the M4N and the 700Hz/3500Hz points, the current configuration is technically solid for these specific drivers. ChScreenshot_20260227_131225.jpgeers

Please recheck the cutoff frequency you mentioned earlier to 600 hz and 3000hz
