Song meanings or lyrics that moved/move you whatever the genre.

or however they floated (or drowned) your boat.
hee hee most recent bollywood ones. Like POooo POoooo, Bala Bala Bala Bala Bala. It can drown one in so much shame and self inflicted humiliation one never recovers.

Old Songs were good though. Some of you may find following tatty and unrefined Bollywood song. But I like the lyrics. And atleast there is no silly dancing.
For those who are uninitiated with bollywood. The background score was played on 'Audiophile' Panasonic Cassette Tape which Rajesh Khanna stopped at the end of the song. Thats Bollywood logic :p

"Ranjish hi Sahi" a beautiful Ghazal written by Ahmed Faraz and popularized by Mehdi Hassan.

Rendered here by Ali Sethi in his beautiful voice and soothing music in a coke studio session, makes this Ghazal likeable even by the younger generation.

To whom all must I explain the reason of separation.
Come, if you are displeased with me, for the sake of the world.

If it is grief so be it, come to break my heart again.
Do come, if only for the act of leaving me again.

Our relationship may not be the same as before, but even if seldom.
Come to fulfill the rituals and traditions of the world.

Respect a little the depth of my love for you.
Come someday to placate me as well.

It has been a long time I haven't had the luxury of grieving.
My peace-of-mind please do come back if only to make me cry.

Till now my hopeful heart is keeping some expectations from you.
But at least come back to put off these last candles of hope.

Enjoy.

Antony Hegarty now Anhoni with her band Antony and the Johnsons. The intro to the song is by Lou Reed (Velvet Underground). The song talks about domestic violence.

"So I'm left to pick up
The hints, the little symbols of your devotion
I feel your fists
And I know it's out of love
And I feel the whip
And I know it's out of love".
"I accept and I collect
on my body,
the memories
of your devotion".

Excerpt about Anohni:
"She has identified as transgender since childhood but “cowardice and shame” prevented her from asking people to call her “she”. “‘She’ used to make my skin crawl,” she says now. “Within a gay context it can be used very snidely: to contain trans people and to denigrate other men. But working and socialising with women, and doing [campaign group] Future Feminism, empowered me in the feminine, and I could accept that it was OK to be the way I am. But I don’t feel emphatically female, it’s more subtle than that.”
At more than 6ft tall, Anohni could easily be lumbering, but she’s delicate, and doodling on a notepad as we talk, she has the quiet, snuffly quality of a child missing school. “I was never going to become a beautiful, passable woman, and I was never going to be a man,” she says. “It’s a quandary. But the trans condition is a beautiful mystery; it’s one of nature’s best ideas. What an incredible impulse, that compels a five-year-old child to tell its parents it isn’t what they think it is. Given just a tiny bit of oxygen, those children can flourish and be such a gift. They give other people licence to explore themselves more deeply, allowing the colours in their own psyche to flourish.”

David Sylvian, Ryuichi Sakamoto - Orpheus

A beautiful song delving on the search for inspiration and overcoming obstacles and desires, from an introspective and atmospheric album "Secrets of the beehive".

Standing firm on this stony ground
The wind blows hard
Pulls these clothes around
I harbour all the same worries as most
The temptations to leave or to give up the ghost
I wrestle with an outlook on life
That shifts between darkness and shadowy light
I struggle with words for fear that they'll hear
But orpheus sleeps on his back still dead to the world

Sunlight falls, my wings open wide
There's a beauty here I cannot deny
And bottles that tumble and crash on the stairs
Are just so many people I knew never cared
Down below on the wreck of the ship
Are a stronghold of pleasures I couldn't regret
But the baggage is swallowed up by the tide
As orpheus keeps to his promise and stays by my side

Tell me, I've still a lot to learn
Understand, these fires never stop
Believe me, when this joke is tired of laughing
I will hear the promise of my orpheus sing

Sleepers sleep as we row the boat
Just you the weather and I gave up hope
But all of the hurdles that fell in our laps
Were fuel for the fire and straw for our backs
Still the voices have stories to tell
Of the power struggles in heaven and hell
But we feel secure against such mighty dreams
As orpheus sings of the promise tomorrow may bring

Tell me, I've still a lot to learn
Understand, these fires never stop
Please believe, when this joke is tired of laughing
I will hear the promise of my orpheus sing

The Tuareg People of the Sahara are making some great music. The guitar stylings are so original and fresh and have a strong blues influence while maintaining a very regional flavour. Other than Tinariwen, Tamikrest and Mdou Moctar are bands I have been checking out lately.

I dont believe in an Interventionist God
And I don't believe in the existence of angels
But looking at you I wonder if that's true
But if I did I would summon them together
And ask them to watch over you
Both to each burn a candle for you
To make bright and clear your path
And to walk, like Christ, in grace a

The movie -"Into the wild" - songs and lyrics have freed my mind and how i view life....forever

On bended knee is no way to be free
Lifting up an empty cup, I ask silently
That all my destinations will accept the one that's me
So I can breathe

Circles they grow and they swallow people whole
Half their lives they say goodnight to wives they'll never know
Got a mind full of questions and a teacher in my soul
And so it goes

Don't come closer or I'll have to go
Owning me like gravity are places that pull
If ever there was someone to keep me at home
It would be you

Everyone I come across in cages they bought
They think of me and my wandering but I'm never what they thought
Got my indignation but I'm pure in all my thoughts
I'm alive

Wind in my hair I feel part of everywhere
Underneath my being is a road that disappeared
Late at night I hear the trees they're singing with the dead
Overhead

Leave it to me as I find a way to be
Consider me a satellite forever orbiting
I knew all the rules but the rules did not know me
Guaranteed

I love "Into the Wild", both the movie and the soundtrack. Good stuff.
