Sonodyne, are they value for money at their current price?

How many listening rooms Sonodyne has in Blore?. Please give address and contact details too.

I'll be in Bangalore next month. Plan to audition their stuff.

There is no listening room in Bangalore. Sonodyne retails their products at the Chroma store in Eva Mall on Brigade Road. You can google for the contact numbers of Chroma store, Eva mall or Sonodyne B'lore office.

As almost all foreign brands are available in India , its very difficult for Indian companies to survive......though I have great respect for Sonodyne for bringing Hi-Fi to every home in India......

Indian companies can easily survive given the absurd pricing of international products in india....You need to offer fresh products from time to time.....

I don't see a real threat to Sonodyne given the current $ price....

Now take this scenario.....

Sonodyne has Sonus range of speakers.. Cheapest by price..... Sonus 1501 for 12K... Imagine what would someone do when he wants to move to a better performance with extended budget... They don't have any product range..

This is where Sonodyne will loose to others even though they have price advantage....

If they can plug the gaps, they can easily surpass others....

Another thing they will have to really really focus is revamping their marketing strategies and customer facing sales personnel. Like they say a chain is only as strong as it's weakest link!

I don't know how to put it, but they need to work on the sound part too... they seem a bit too loud. Let us see how the Opus speakers fare...

Sonodyne, cosmic and woodstock speakers were very strong in the 70s and late 80s and people who were interested in hifi basically bought these in the absence of imported alternatives which were difficult to source. Then these brands vanished from general view possibly because the demand was not enough. The reason for lesser demand is not known. Further due to liberalisation and possibly due to people able to afford higher priced components/more awareness of products the imported brands have made there presence felt through local importers and to some extent direct by companies like onkyo,Yamaha etc.

I understand Sonodyne focussed on export markets and have kept local market interested with few products. Perhaps they feel that indian audio market has not reached that critical mass for them to fully exploit. Further foreign brands with warranty and variety of products with high quality sound make it attractive for audiophiles and would be audiophiles to dip into their kitty.

If only our people try to encourage by buying products of Indian brands then only local brands would flourish. Otherewise it would entry level offerings on ly from them. And they are definitely value for money.

Just my loud thinking.

Went in search of Sonodyne Blore Office. They have moved to Indiranagar. It is in a residential locality with no sign boards. Disappointed to see that their office! was closed. Sunday is the day when most of us are free from work. If they close their office on Sunday, how can they do business?.

Is it a showroom or just an office?

For movies yes you need a sub..... For music, it is personal preference....

So you are buying these speakers without an audition? highly recommend you audition them, it is big money, it is worth traveling to another city to have an audition. Sonodynes need an audition, they are not to everyone's liking, some people swear by it but some others detest it with the same intensity. This thread is for proving this point, for the speakers to sound nice, you need a good source, amp, cable, dac and lot of such excuses...

For any speaker to sound good, you need good source & etc.......

If you feed the best speaker with crappy source, obviously it will sound bad....

There is a Dealer in chennai from whom i bought the speakers.. Here are the contact details..

VIPUL AUDIO TECH, Chennai

195/287 Kilpauk Garden Road,
Kilpauk,Chennai 600010
(Near Kilpauk Post Office)
T: 42698542
M: 9941476667
(Contact person : Praveen)

If you are not able to get a demo there, you are welcome to my home anytime for a complete & extended audition :ohyeah:

Usually ppl spend high on speakers and settle for an Average amplifier.... I did the reverse....

Spent low on speakers, saved some moeny & got a very good mid range amplifier..

I didint have a chance to audition in chennai, after reading this whole thread i was so impressed on buying our desi speakers :),

Also I'm not sure my 95 watts AMP will drive the sonodyne tower speakers

may i have your suggestion on the cable and DAC to be used with my Onkyo NR 626, Also let me know how to connec te DAC to the AMP , is it like ..Source -- > DAC -- AMP ?

I called the chennai retalier, but they were not anymore dealing with sonodyne speakers :(

Oh sad that the dealer discontinued the sales of Sonodyne....

It is not how many watts is required for drive the speaker... But how sensitive the speakers are....

Sonodyne 2605 are 89db efficient.... Onkyo 626 should be able to drive the speakers comfortably......

Good to hear that my AVR will drive these speakers..

I was looking at Sonodyne too instead of BA XS 5.1, but reading some comments on this thread, I am apprehensive, now that the demo is out of the question, may just have to go with sats.
