Sony Android TV Series

Guys Images of my Sony 43W950C...

1. Picture quality is crisp and sharp. It comes with triluminos display and x-reality pro. I can see the SD content also looking more crisp and sharp. I havent tested 3D content yet as glasses dont comes with the box and need to purchase. I am not big fan of 3D.

2. Build quality is good. Panel is very thin and weight only 12 kgs. Plastic back panel is sturdy. Panel comes with two screws at back for wall mounting.

3. Sound is the best in class. It comes with sound bar. I surprised by the bass produced by this sound bar. I like more warm speakers and this sound bar does job well.

4. Android TV platform is one very different experience for me. Very easy to connect you mobile phone to tv, Mirroring, supports to all file formats, found VLC and KODI applications which can play all formats also stream the content directly from wifi. Android firmware updated twice from the date i purchased the TV and included lot of features after that.

5. IR blaster and camera comes with box. IR blaster is attached to my TATA sky box and can use single remote for set top box and tv. This is big convenience.

Cons :

1. Takes time to boot up tv first time. When you cut down power and start it again it takes time to boot. Slimier to our android mobile phone.
2. Blaster sometimes didnt work as expected while changing channels on set top box.

@anup_ja : congratulation on your purchase. W950C indded looks awesome. even i am looking out for the tv and stuck between 800C and 950C. on SD channels i couldn't find any difference. did you do the comparison between these two models? there is a difference 10K between the two and i don't want to miss out on features [and especially the PQ] while making the decision. any specific advantages of truliminus display!?

i went to vijay sales and these two tvs were kept side by side. I asked him to switch same channel on the tv to test it and i found triluminous performing better than normal panel. Obvious you can bargain more on the price. Also the sound bar is worth the price producing very good low freq. sounds.

I will recommend you to go to showroom and test both 800c and 950c side by side to take decision.

@anup_ja : what is the boot up time for the tv. does it need to boot Android OS even for regular DTH tv viewing?

Yes it needs to boot up android for dth viewing. It take 30 -50 sec booting depending on your apps installation. But it is on happens only if you cut the power source from tv. If power source is uninterrupted then booting process dont take place. Same as our mobile phone.

i ended up buying W950C. youtube HD videos look awesome and much better than tata sky HD channels.

@anup_ja are you planning to buy a wireless keyboard? i want one - but not sure of compatibility. android apps are useless, buggy and filled with ads.

PS: didn't know we couldn't use the camera fro video chats! W800C is definitely a worthy contender -priced 10K less than W950C

I went to croma and had a look at w800c and w950 side by side with a synced remote and synced settings.

Within a few seconds I noticed something. The w800 has far superior black levels. The 800 panel even when off is much darker than the w950c.
While on the 950c's colors are bright and crisp, the contrast is considerably worse than it's international HX predecessors from 2011-2012.
There's no way such poor contrast levels are justified at the price bracket the tv is from.

You can load up as much android and soundbar designs with the package but in this day and age, the contrast level the w950c - an india only model, offers us. Is unacceptable. Motionflow or not, the w800 blows away the 950c in black levels. And Regardless of how rich colours are, if a panel at that price-range isnt black as ink, it's deal breaker.

I came across this at Big Bazaar being offered at a huge discount.
List price - Rs 165k
Offered - Rs119k.
Any views in the 4K series- KD-49X8500C?

W950C:
i am enjoying the new tv experience. most of my viewing has switched to youtube videos. it blends seamlessly in your tv watching experience. i dunno how it is done, youtube app suggests good quality movies and almost all of them have been free of youtube ads!!

and the convenience of using single remote!! just wow! IR Blaster works flawlessly and i can do away with ugly TataSky remote! and also i have found a different app for controlling tv through tab [full control with pointer and keyboard]. this has given rebirth to now defunct nexus tab! :p

Guys even Iam planning for 43x8500. Its the best features (except 3D) in 4k category with the least pricing with Triluminous..

Have checked Lg 2015 Tv's they all are a failure except the super expensive OLED TV which is in a different league all together.

Donno but i have always felt Sony Panel's color, punchiness and black levels better than samsung panels..
