Sony BDV N990W - 5.1 over HDMI

Hi guys,

I'm planning to buy this unit and went through the following specs:
BDV-N990W : Blu-ray Home Theatre Systems : Home Theatre System : Sony India

There the following line is mentioned under the specs : LPCM (2ch/5.1ch/7.1ch) Yes/Yes/Yes (HDMI in: 2ch only)
Does this mean that even though it has hdmi in, if i connect my stb/other device through hdmi, it'll emit only 2 channel from it?

Or is Dolby Digital given below in the specs anything different from LPCM and I can still get 5.1 through HDMI?

forget it.
lg/sony/samsung audio sets are junks..complete waste of money
even a shadi/puja wala local amp and 2 budget bookshelf will perform better

get avr based sets like onkyo 3500/denon 1311xp/yamaha 296.....all 25k to 30 range..

get a separate sony/panasonic blu ray player

btw does the system i mentioned still transmit 5.1 over hdmi or its just 2 channel (is lpcm different from dd)?

thier specs is very confusing.

it is also written no dolby/dts via hdmi in etc etc..dont waste your time.

demo denon 1311xp also..
btw you can confindently buy onkyo 3500/3400(little less priced)...27k...23k...
get a sony 490 blu ray player/panasonic 220 player -------8k to 10k..

so total will be around 35k....

a hassle free full enjoy system..

btw what will be your use and your source??
i mean music/movie

dvds/files/blu rays/tata sky??
room size also

use will be for 3d blu ray movies and tata sky hd channels. Not that much of a music buff.

Room size around 15x15 feet...

i will suggest separates..
however thats a costly route but best route..
say a onkyo avr of 25k...
separate center and front speakers...30k..

sub--later
rears--later..

for a limited budget..
buy onkyo 3400 confinedently....i am using it in a 20*12 room...fantastic at this price..but again reminding you..separates are of a different class

Hey Prosenjit da,
I am getting onkyo 3400. Already bought the sony 3d bluray player 490.
Now which wires will be better? The people at the shop are suggesting some thick wires. Is it worth it?

great.
dont buy any wires now.
enjoy the system with the in the box wires.
later you can buy polycab speaker wires/solid core normal copper electrical wies from electrical shops.

costlier than that does not make sense in 3400..

enjoy now...dont spend anything now..
