Which one is better sony S380 or philips BDP2600. Which one will have better video quality and upscaling ability. Getting philips one about 1k cheaper.Or any other player in range of 6-7k?

Are those multi region or Region C locked?

As far as I know hardly any manufacturer sells region free BD players because of the reason you already know. One popular practice is to buy a region-locked player and hack it using available codes through remote. However, they are just hacks and you can't held responsible anyone if doesn't work. My friendly suggestion is increase your budget, as I guess you are not going to buy BD players every 2 years or so. 5K-8K range is good to start with, but then again you will probably have to go for a better one. As for me I have a LG BD 550 (region C, around 7K). Its OK and nothing more. Now going for a better region-free one. In my opinion SONY models are marginally better than Philips in terms of performance, loading time, remote, NTFS/FAT 32 issue, upscaling. Check by yourself : customer feedbacks in AMAZON US, at least thats what I usually do. If you are really into films, invest heavily - you won't regret. Me more into music, so not sure about me getting a OPPO!

Sony blu ray anyday!!

Within your range you can get Samsung D5100 at about 6.9K..It plays all video audio formats..Besides it has excellent GUI.

Buy anything but not Philips.... Sony 380 is a good player with ntfs support... go fot it !!

Get the Sony, it's region free for DVD out of the box and is nearly identical to the much respected BDP-S370 apart from the addition of the ability to read NTFS formatted HDDs and the removal of one of the digital outputs.

Well i purchased Sony S380 and didnt update the thread. Thanks guys for ur valuable feedback. One query:
My friend is interested in Samsung D5100, want to ask does it support DTS HD-MA? On samsung site it says no. Got confused.
