I have a small 12x12 room, i'm looking for something great for music and good for movies. I auditioned polk tsi 300+avr 1611+psw 110 it shounded good with tight bass but it was really very bright. I'm thinking of investing in a 2.1 system for now and later buying center and rears.
In japonica ct90 was not available i took a demo of ct 70, but i did not like it, fronts and center was moderate but bass was more or less ok. I also auditioned mj acoustics xenoxmi 100e front with xeno xci center, and promk ii, with a cost of 82000 but i found it costlier than its quality. SKS traders is having renovation will go there once its done. Whats your progress so far?
The japonica shop said they are out of stock and we should check back after 3 months. This is what reply I got about 3 weeks back. I asked what other brands they have and the man sounded irritated and said nothing is there in stock and I should check back after 3 months. So customer friendly
.Me and mandark have visited the sonodyne, profx and promises so far. Plan to visit Yamaha, SKS Traders this Sat.

^^^ i'll also visit sks & sonodyne for a final audition this sunday or monday. let me know your experience there. also i'm still very uncertain about what to buy, cannot get something of my preference specially finding someone who can give me a demo of ct 90
We carried the same audio CD (with one additional track - Bassotronics ~ Bass, I Love You) and Matrix DVD for comparison.
SKS Traders Stall (Agri-Horticultural Society of India at Alipore)
Cambridge Audio Amp + Mordaunt Short Aviano 2 (BS)
We played the audio CD in stereo mode for about 20 mins. Though the speakers were set in a open stall I was quite surprised by the clarity and depth of the speakers.
Except for the new track by Bassotronics it handled all the tracks very well. I'm really looking forward to hear this in 5.1 mode.
Cambridge Audio Amp + Mordaunt Short Aviano 6 (FS)
Enter the big brother, and it was similar to Aviano 2, except the bass handling was even better.
Cambridge Audio Amp + Cambridge Audio Minx s212
Quite good for a satellite speaker, but it couldn't reproduce the finesse of Aviano series.
We were quoted following price for Aviano series:
Yamaha - Impressia House
Yamaha RX-667 + Yamaha NS-555
Played audio in stereo mode. It appeared quite boomy...
Yamaha RX-667 + Yamaha NS-8900
Vocals and music were quite messed up... they were overlapping (I'm not sure how else to describe this)
Now we played the Matrix DVD in 5.1 setup and it was really good... overall I felt it was a good setup for viewing movies rather than listening to music.
Digital Acoustics
Yamaha Amp + JBL CineSystem 200 5.1 (played in stereo mode)
The audio appeared jaded... didn't like the way the system handled the bass.
Yamaha Amp + JBL CineStyle 20 5.1 (played in stereo mode)
The audio was better, but we HAD heard Aviano...
Amp (Not Sure) + Tannoy Fusion 4
Not quite impressed for the quoted price...

Denon 1911 + Polk RTi A3
This sounded better than TSi 200 series in stereo mode. The details were better and bass was tight (the tech person said that the piece was brand new and the sound quality will improve once it is bit older). It handled the Bassotronics track quite nicely, which Aviano couldn't.
Then we played the Matrix DVD in 5.1 setup. For a BS it sure packs punch!!
Looking forward to audition Wharfedale, Dali next week.

I would like to add that for scenes that had gunfires the yamaha speakers were hurting my ears.
But truly the Aviano 2 and 6 series had really impressed us.
One more thing, the Digital Acoustic store that we visited who kept JBL, Harmon Kardon and Tannoy speakers they keep good 5.1 AVR+Speaker packages of Harmon Kardon + JBL starting from 24/25K to 80/85K. They are however reluctant to seperate those packs and if someone wants only speakers. Apart from these keep mostly towers speakers of JBL and Tannoy which are all very highly priced minimum tannoy then quoted for 38K for front pair and the sound output is not justified for that price. The JBL towers are even costlier starting in the range of 58K.
Later this Saturday when mandark had left, I went with the same audio CD to audition the Bose AM 10 series. The sound output was good and one thing that I found was that bassy sounds were not shaking the wall, one good thing. Reproduction of frequencies were also good. I asked them if they can turn off the rears for stereo mode, the sales person said it cannot be done (not sure if she knew it). However nothing outstanding that can hypnotize anyone but truly very unexpected sound as compared to satellites. The price quoted was around 58K and no discounts, they sell only at MRPs. One note that I found on the walls of the showroom was something like "Stereo effect not just in the sweet zone but anywhere in the room" -- did not have time to evaluate this claim.
Then I demoed the Lifestyle 18 5.1 system with DVD player costing 1.16L which sounded almost similar to AM 10. I asked them whether this support BD - they said no. I asked if this has HDMI input capability from other sources - they said for that I will require to purchase another Bose module that costs around 22K and helps upscale.
So my verdict for Bose is Thumbs down mostly for lack of feature (BD, HDMI, 5.1, upscaler, etc) which the others are offering and not being outstanding enough to impress me for that price range. Moreover the system did not seem flexible enough to me like different audio modes (Stereo, 5.1, etc). But I would say that at high volumes other satellites like Elac Starlet, Cambridge Minx, Onkyo minis, etc that I have auditioned earlier were hurting the ears but the Bose packages never hurt your ears at least during my demo.

I think for a pair the MRP was around 41/42K and they said around 5 to 7 percent discount would be available. But please wait for mandark to update the prices of the speakers from our last demo. HE will put the exact speakers.

i went to SKS and auditioned Wharfdale 10.4 + Cambridge Audio and sounded good for its price 30k, high was little low but its perfect if you listen to music for hours as its close to neutral , lows were good but i think adding a good sub will highlight it better
Also auditioned Dali Concept 6 @ 38k, for the mid and high more clear, but low is better in wharf, but for 8k more i think i'll avoid it unless i find something seriously good.
I'll audition Aviano 6, hope i like it, btw where is the tradefair going in alipore, is it also open now?

Ohh just for record also auditioned Paradigm espirit v4 @ 20k with sub paradign pdr 12 and it sounded crap.

ohh also forgot... went to sonodyne store too, the sales person was so arrogant no willing to show anything, and btw sonodyne sucks too, maybe its low on price but i'm willing to invest more on better speakers than sonodyne
It was a flower show in Alipur horticulture for 3 days only. Now it will be only in SKS showroom since their renovation is complete.
I am sure you will like the Aviano. Let me know what you find out. Btw me and mandark plan to visit SKS this sat around 11-12 pm toaudition dlai, wharf and aviano once again.
