Speaker Auditioning Experiences - Kolkata

I have spoken to Harmonie Audio, the owner recognized me from hifivision. He is very cordial and invited me to his shop. I will be visiting him this week end.

Hi Friends,

Thanks everyone for your responses.

1) My budget for the speakers cum AVR is abt 100K (max) cos I want the entire set-up done for not more than 225K.
2) I am definately doing Profx tomorrow. Will take a quote/suggestion from them as well along with Digital Aqu.
3) Promises is definately out of the equation now
4) Will try to do Hermonie Audio as well. Any idea of the exact location
5) Is Denon 1312 or 1713 a good AVR.
6) How is Tannoy TFX 5.1. Any reviews on this. It sounded good to me.
7) Also anyone has any idea abt Invisible speakers which is an inhouse product of Digital Aq.

Thanks
Gaurav

In 1 lac budget for audio, you can go for 40k avr which can be 1712 and 60k can fetch you good front fs and workable rears. But a good sub would not come unless you buy satellites within 30 k or 35 k for 5.0.

@ Saikat - I come to know that u r now owning MS Aviano 6 tower speakers with Denon AVR. I am planning to get a HT system for my 320 sq. ft living room. 65:35 is the ratio for Music:Movie in my case. I will be driving the system may be by Denon 2113 ? So far I auditioned various systems like Sonodyne Sonus, Tannoy Mercury, Wharf Diamond 9.X, Paradigm Monitor series, Klipsche, Jamo, Elac, Q Acoustics, Polk RTi A5 and so on...
I am yet to listen up Monitor Audio SIlver series, Dali and Mordaunt Short Aviano 6.
Please suggest me your views over MS Aviano 6 and Monitor AUdio speakers with respect to Polk RTi A5.

Many Thanks

I heard MS aviano and MA Bronze (old BR series) in A/B and preferred the bronze over MS sound as it had more clarity. I then heard MA bronze and silver in A/B and instantly upped my budget :) as silver trashed the bronze into oblivion. I was wise then not to hear the gold series :). What sound one likes is personal but if you like midly bright but extremely detailed sound, MA would be the one. I heard the gold series recently while auditioning for amplifier and am now contemplating selling my RX6. Not so wise afterall :(.

Of all the speakers we auditioned during our research we loved the avianos most for music and movies balance and they paired best with ca stereo amps but denon pairing is also good. All 3 of us who went on auditioning loved the avianos. Sound was quite detailed and you are getting a higher amp than mine so it will be even better. Polk rti sound was a bit laid back in our opinion which I heard on a different audition. Also the inherent bass response of avianos was better. Nevertheless I did not audition MA series and as our fm suggested you must audition them too. I have plans to get a stereo amp to get the best out of avianos not that I am dissatisfied now.

I am not sure of the price for bronze series, my guess will be 45K - 60K. RX6 last I heard were bought a few months back by FM Vkhandelwal for 85K. Prices may have gone up since the rupee has weakened over the past few months. RX8 would cost even more but I found RX8 bass to be overpowering, especially for small indian homes.

Posting after a long time, last week me and mandark paid a visit to SKS Traders to get our 3 yr warranty cards for Avianos stamped by the dealer and found some new stuffs in the shop. We got the chance to do avery brief audition of a pair of Totem Arrow speakers selling around 95K INR paired with Sugthen A21 Amplifier selling for 1.4 lakhs INR. The speakers had a mere 4 inch Dyna-Audio driver on each box but the sound coming out of them were amazing. We were told that the aplifier has been kept at 10% of the volume and on return the sound produced was unbelievable for a driver of that size. I think mandark can educate others about more minute details of the output but I thought it to be of worthy mentioning here.

Btw mandark has booked Aviano 9 sub for his home system and subhadeep has received the delivery of a SVS sub he has purchsed, details he can better post or when we visit their homes we can post a audition feedback. Congrats to both of them.

For price hike reference, the Sudgen A21 was quoted 190K MRP today by SKS traders :(.

Hi Friends,

Following up on my earlier post.

I have got quotes from three places. A little confused on the speakers front. Rest more of less decided unless you guys recommend something.

1) AVR - Denon 1713
2) Motorised Screen (Glass plated one) - Is it really worth it. I watched Avatar (demo) on it and it looked mindblowing. Others are providing matt finish.
3) Projector - Mitsuibishi HC 4000

4) Speakers

Confused between - Jamo A 320, Tannoy TFX 5.1 and kef/polk
Please advise which would be the best amoung the three. I have not heard kef yet but with my limited understanding Tannoy sounded the best so far.

This entire package (cable inc) would cost me around 200-225K. Is this doable. Request all knowlegable friends to respond.

Thanks
Gaurav

Gaurav, when you say you liked the Tannoy most, what was the amp with which Tannoy was played with in the showroom?

Hi Saiket,

It was played on a lower AV. I think it was Denon 1312. But I would like to upgrade to 1713 given its a 2012 product and has airplay (which would be useful for me). Also I presume that 1713 would only enchance the sound further.

1713 would definitely be better. I believe for the speakers I suggested another very good option to Rupam and that is Mirage Nanosat (promises).

Purchase the Audiolab 6000A Integrated Amplifier at a special offer price.
