I have never mentioned this before for fear of ridicule 
. In my earlier home when I was setting up my first HT, I had used single core 15A electrical wire for the speakers. It was a set of Polk Audio RM6750 5.1 speakers. I had no idea about specialized wires. A requirement for low resistance led me to believe that those would be appropriate. The sound was excellent. I then laid out DAC 14 gauge wires when I shifted to a new home with the same speakers. I don't think i noticed any change in sound quality.
It may well be due to my being no expert but that is my experience.
