I am in the process of buying speaker system for home theatre in Bangalore.
So far i have auditioned the following:

Cerwin Wega - sub-par (don't remember the series name)
Energy CF-50 - good, little boomy.
Polk RTI A7 - somewhat boomy, slight tinge of harshness
JBL Studio 290 - okay, not flaterring
and am planning for PSB T6/Imagine X2T and Paradigm SE or Monitor or Studio series

My budget is 2L for the speaker and the AVR. I intend to watch movies 75% of the time and 25% for music. Any recommendations on what other combinations i could try out?

How big is your room? Is it a dedicated home theater...when you say 25% music...what kind of music do you listen to and what format you usually go with?

From your impressions of the speakers, you don't seem to be a bass lover...you may want to add KEF and Def Tech to your list as well...these along with PSB and Paradigm are in a different league than the ones you have tried so far...

I assume you are looking for a 5.1. 1.5l for speakers + 50k for AVR would be the typical breakup. I find the below to be good:

1. Dali Zensor 7 - very popular in the forum. You will have to pick a non-Dali Sub to keep the cost under budget.
2. Q Acoustics 2040

+ several other options from Boston Acoustics, Cambridge Audio, Monitor Audio, Tannoy, Wharf, ...
