Hi guys

Can someone tell me the difference between speakers meant for Home theater as against those meant for just Audio (Music). And how can this difference be spotted and understood.

I consider myself only an audio enthusiast and not an Audiophile. And I would like to understand the above.

Thanx a ton.

good speakers are good speakers. they should do good for both.
you can make out bad speakers much more easily with music than with movies. with movies, your primary attention is watching the movies.

Good speakers will represent the amplifier correctly.ie.If you connect AVR,it can output effect accordingly & if you connect stereo amp,it will output the music the way the CD has to sound.
Now still you can see HT speaker category as most of HT speakers(Budget) are made of small cabinate where they has to combine with SW.The big one can be used for listening music too very well.

Hi

Can anyone suggest some speakers like that of BA soundware XS.small cube speakers.
Any other options in this kind of asthetic and ok sounding speakers except bose.

the distinguishing item in your set up for stereo vs surround sound will be the amplifier.

What I understand, and which may not be correct:

movies at times sudden demand high excursions - for example the gun shot scene in Dark Knight. Single driver speakers that are very good at music might not be able to take that kind of abuse.

But then if you cross over to a separate sub, this problem may not arise.

A good stereo speakers sound good with movies naturally. But you can get this kind of effect in a movie setup with a great center speaker and moderately good fronts.

Also integrating a sub in a 2 channel setup is a headache. Subs attach more nicely to a 5.1 setup. Hence a HT front can be less bassy and can be controlled by cross-over. The bass can be handled by the sub.

Iam not saying a sub+front channel setup is never good for music, but I have not come accross bookshelf + sub setup sounding as good or better than floorstands. Hence IMO in a stereo setup, quality bass is essential.

always keep music setup separate , the good for movie and music is a compromise that you can make initial days .

avr to speaker /stereo amp to speaker..
and switching every day is hassle. ;)Most budget Avrs dont do well with music,
From my experience, i have seen simplest TRipath stereo AMP sounded better than AVRs stereo connection ,
So why to spend 20k extra for expensive AVR for little bit better performance in stereo mode ?

Get stereo amp in 3-10K, dedicated cabling for stereo setup, placement etc also differs .

As per as i know S.stage, texture, details are very important for music, but for movies the speakers ability to do a basic job at the location is fine .
