Speakers with good detailing

Within you budget the KEF 300s are a very good choice, do keep in mind they pack a good punch and hence in a small room with a sub woofer you might find them very bassy.

If you really like a lot of detail and dont mind spending around 45-50k then Dali Ikon 2s are a very good choice. They are very revealing in terms of detail, but they do lack a fair bit on the bass, which of course for you is taken care of by the sub.

Give it a shot if you have the extra dough!

For good detailing, you can also consider Paradigm Monitor series. I have monitor 7 version 6. Version 6 us being faded out. But you may find some odd pieces if you you're lucky. They ate within 50ks.

I second that ... Monitor 9 Series 7 are very detailed. I heard them last weekend and I found them better than the Monitor 7. Note that I am speaking of the new series i.e. Series 7 and not the older Series 6 that @paritosh has mentioned.

However, Monitor 9 will extend slightly beyond 50k while Monitor 7 can be had for <45k.

If you are looking for floorstanders, then Tannoy Mercury V4 would fit right in your budget. I have purchased them recently and am might pleased with the scale, imaging and detail they provide. They are very good at handling high frequencies with no sibilance or tinnyness usually associated with budget speakers. It also provides good amounts of tight bass and looks pretty good as well.

i just love the look of ushers. they look solid. cud u please suggest where i cud audition them?

also, from the look of it, it feels like it wud be suitable for jazz and classical music.. or looks cud be deceptive?

Hi jenson,
they definitely sound good with Jazz and classical. OTOH at the recent Pune HFV meet I found that they are good at every genre. It's obvious in hifi, still need to emphasize that it needs a min of entry level marantz 5001 CDP /equivalent DAC to shine.... a DVDP as source will make it sound "just ok".

One area where I found a similarly priced speaker, Paradigm Titan, was better, was... the fast bass, and split-second crescendo like blasts in music. Though among other bass-factors like tone, depth, and coherence from bass to mids, these Ushers were better.
