step down transformer with 60 hzs

This is my first post.I have just got a Pioneer AV reciever VSX 819 K which works on 120 V 60 cycles.Online advice cautions against using 50 cycles as this would result in a system burn out asa bout 17-20 percent current is retained in the inbuilt transformer..However experienced transformer manufacturers/suppliers in Bangalore say nothing will happen.Any advice on solid state frequency changers and their cost ?

I THINK (but not too sure) that AC is converted to DC before any power is supplied to the electronics. Motors too are DC motors.
So if your AC is converted to DC, the number of cycles do not matter.

However, if there is an AC motor inside it, then it would matter.

Gurus - please confirm.

Me not a guru, but I am using a non-branded (made to order in Hyd) 1KV/5amp voltage converter for my onkyo amp and a sub for the last 4 months. Haven't noticed any ill effects so far.
