Hi,

I connected a Denon 1913 (which is 460W rated power) to a 1000W step down transformer.

The moment I switched on the Denon, in a fraction of a second the fuse inside the step-down transformer blew!

I opened and checked, it was a 1 Amp fuse.

I'd read about inrush currents, but from what I understand an inrush current is the current that flows into the transformer when it's first switched on. And a high inrush current will take out the fuse of the house! Here, the fuse blew when I switched on the Denon, not the transformer.

Questions are:

1) Can a receiver generate an inrush current?
2) Considering that I=P/V (Current = Power/ Voltage), considering that it's a 1000W transformer supplying 110 Volts, assuming it's fully loaded, the current drawn would be 1000/ 110 = 9.09 Amps. Therefore I'm not sure how a 1 Amp fuse was installed on the transformer.
3) Can somebody with a 1000W transformer please pull out the fuse, check the amperage and post it here?

Also please note, we've run this amplifier on this transformer a few times earlier on as high as 70% volume, without any issues. So I'm not sure what went wrong this time!

A 1000w and 1 amp fuse is not correct. If the fuse is located on the 230 v side ie on the mains input side you will need at least 6 amps fuse .

I think that it is the issue with internal copper coils. They have gone bad or shorted. It has nothing to do with the receiver. Maybe rewinding needs to be done for the transformer.
