Stereo Speaker Setup Needed

Hi,

I'm currently in the market for a good 2.1 stereo setup for my living room and haven't been too successful at zeroing in on anything that is potent (read: bass thump) and delivers clear mids and highs.

I'm looking at this purely for music and NOT video / movies / gaming and was curious about the choices available at this point.

My Budget is INR 50,000

Here's what I have auditioned :
1. Bose CineMate Series II -
The Bad : Extremely lacking in the bass department.
The Good : It can go really loud and yet reproduce clean sound

2. Focal XS 2.1 Multimedia - Unable to audition (PRO FX does not have stock)
Have been informed that this is a potent system. Sourcing it however is a very difficult task. Priced at around 44 K

3. Harman Kardon HS250
The Good : Powerful, Loud and punchy audio
The Bad : Price seems to be the only issue (northwards of 53k methinks). That and the fact that it comes with a DVD player that I will not be using.

So, I need help. Any inputs would be welcome. I haven't ventured into the space of stereo amplifiers+bookshelf speakers because I honestly have no clue about them and what sounds good. Plus, can bookshelf speakers deliver tight bass or is it best to look for a 2.1 setup?

Checkout Epos M12i and Epic 5 Speakers. They are excellent for stereo setup.

Also check out NAD C326BEE with PSB Image B6 Combo for a Warm and laid back Stereo Sound. This combo should set you back by 60.5K but will go a long way.

Since u need loads and loads of thump look out for Mordaunt Short Aviano 2 with Cambridge Audio 550 amp /// Marantz Pm6003 amp
or
Wharfedale 9.5 with Marantz PM6003 amp

NAD C 326BEE + PSB Image B6 is an awesome stereo set-up with gud punchy and tight bass. U should audition this.

at that budget imo you should go for a good pair of bookshelves or floorstanders. dont try satellites and subs.

Harman kardon 3490 is another good option about 3ok. Go for some jBL speakers with that. HoweverThe ones which i heard were from ES Series costing 60k per pair. However you can choose a speaker model that suits your budget.

Try Wharfedale 9.2 with Marantz Pm6003 or Denon 710AE, this will be the best possible probably in this budget, and you need to consider stand cost as well. Samsung blue disk player has a fantastic DAC, so that would be easy on your pocket as well. Refer this post of mine for some general insight if you want -

FYI, NORGE 2060 with Wharfedale Diamond 9.2 with Pioneer DVD/Samsung BD player may just be the thing you want at a good cost (9000 + 18000 + 5000 respectively) + 11k for stands.

Hey Buddy, If tight bass and great mids is what you are looking for then sub-sats combo is certainly not an option for you. Yamaha AX series(stereo amps) has great models AX397/497 which you can get for around 20k and deliver phenomenal bass with their variable loudness function. For speakers you may look at bookshelf catagory.(you'll be surprised how much bass they can produce) wharfdale/KEF/Mordaunt Short are some of the brands to consider for your kinda budget. If you need something exclusive then you may also consider 'CUSTOM-MADE' bookshelf or floorstander speaker pair. That way you can get what exactly you're lookin for.

Wow... thanks a ton guys. You've given me a brilliant starting point to hunt for the best setup in my budget.

Spending this week (and mostly the next one too) auditioning these units. It is a wee bit tricky given that different dealers stock different components and you may not get the right amplifier / speaker combo while listening in.. but it surely helps to get an idea.

'The Shop' by far has been the least cooperative.. extremely limited range and they end up suggesting you audition something completely different from what you asked for.!

My budget doesn't currently include a source. (Already have one for now). so it's just speakers and the amp...

If you can up the antic, please check out

PSB or Quad or EPOS bookshelves. Anyday I can vouch for EPOS

Satellite + sub is BAD for music, I have had one of the best from Logitech since 6 years, it still is there, but one should use them for movies and games.
