@the OP,considered goin down the used route?i believe the dynaudio audience 72 in the for sale thread by spidey should be a hugely satisfying entry into the great speaker manfr domain,in ur budget too.havent heard it,but :licklips:.cheers
Second the suggestion above...Klipsch speakers ( even bookshelves ) are known for the quantity of bass they generate....if not the quality.Strange tht nobody suggested Klipsch here for this kind of music
.....
Now to the most important part....
That being said i have a few key points....
1. The mix of music is "Hip-Hop, Dance, House, Trance, Techno" + Pop, Rock & also Hindi music & ocassional Jazz, Blues & Instrumental.
So i'm looking for an "All Rounder kind of Speakers but with more emphasis on Pop, Rock, Hip-Hop, Dance, House, Trance, Techno.
Is that a reasonale quest ? or is my search itself wrong ?
Sono: It's a feasible quest. For a start you can begin with ashishkesarwani's suggested model... if you want BS only solution.
2. The music will be heard at below medium to high medium levels 90 % of the time & very ocassionally at high volumes.
That brings me to the very important point of...
3. "Bass"
I'm looking for a "tight, clean and accurate bass response". Something which is soothing and not very fatiguing over a no. of hours of listening. I dont want very thumping, discotheque kind of overbearing bass although my choice of music "Hip-Hop, Dance, House, Trance, Techno" might suggest that.
Hence i'm willing to move towards a pair of stereo speaker which might have a very soothing, non fatiguing sound. I'm willing to settle for slightly less bass as that can be compensated by adding a "musical sub" later on.
I dont want to get speakers which have too much bass but not clear mids & highs. But if there are Book Shelves Speakers which have good mids, highs and at the same time decent to good levelsof bass then that is most ideal scenario. So the question is...
A. Do i buy speakers with good highs, mids & weak bass and add a sub...?
Sonos: Yes, I would specify further that the BS shouldn't go lower than 50 Hz in the declared specs (Actually there is no such thing like a brick-wall filter type cut-off at 50 Hz here... rather its a steep slope). In such case Bass management of BS is easier (put it anywhere as long as its 6 inches away from wall... no muddy /boomy bass problems). Now for freq lower than 50 Hz, go for musical sub. Subs offer far more options in placement (web is full of a million articles on sub placement). Furthermore the this sub can also be part of your Home theatre setup. Talk about judicious use of a single resource!
Usher S520 has ok bass. For Rs 24k it delivers amazing SQ /detail /soundstage... the works. It has slightly forward sound. If paired with a warm detailed amp it will sound well balanced (it sounded like heaven to me with Jaton Operetta power + Shindo pre). Thouth Marantz amp is not known to be warm, my hunch says it should still sound ok with Usher S520. I suggest don't spend more on other BS until you've heard these Ushers. Rather divert the savings towards the musical sub.
BTW you may be aware that BS + Sub option is being suggested because of your 12 x 10 room size. For a room size of 24 x 16 and like, FS will give the best "united sound" from low freq to hi.
or
B. Do i buy speakers which have good highs, mids & good bass too...? Is there a Bookshelf like that out there ?
Sonos: This can be done but involves a risk that you cannot give sufficient clear space (2.5 feet recommended) behind a BS that goes as low as 35Hz with flat overall response. Further more if one of your BS ends up being closer to wall corner, whereas the other is almost near middle of room, you end up with the unsolvable problem of physics, i.e the corner BS haviing bumped up bass (... don't even think of expensive room acoustic treatments or equalizer to resolve this. It will never be as good as symmetrical placement of the BS stereo pair.)
Thanks
Can any body post a first hand review on Wharfedel Diamond 10.7? This falls right in the middle (55000) of the budget mentioned in the first post. Those floorstanders look pretty impressive. Any views folks!![]()

Now here is thought in my mind.... I do realise that when i go to audition these they will all be set up with different Amps which will make it kind of difficult to really know how a pair of speaker would have performed with another Amplifier.
1. What's a way around this problem ?
2. Do generally demo room people keep matching Amps for the corresponding Speakers ?
3. Or is it better that i first decide on a Amplifier and then buy one and then carry that amp to different demo rooms so that i can have a uniform judgement ?
4. But then is there any one Stereo Amlifier which will suit a variety of different Speakers ?
Whats say guys....???
