Subwoofer - Need advise please

HSU Subs are available in India? And would Polk Audio Dsw560 pass this tested test? Cheers,

Hsu subs were available through Audire. I am not sure of the current situation. Please check with Audire.

Regarding Polk Audio, I have heard their subs, so I have no idea. In any case, a personal audition is a must for subs. Get a copy of U571 and go and listen to a few subs.

Cheers

I am planning to get a SVS sub through Audire. Anybody has any views on these. As this purchase is going to happen only on relying on the reviews and not on actual auditioning.

There are others in the forum from Delhi who have bought the SVS PC 12 sub, if you are looking at the same sub, you may as well audition it. One of them is rana kirti.

I am looking at a sealed box type either the sb 10 or the sb 12 from SVS. Would appreciate some feedback from the members. Further, going to use this only for movies and planning to use this in the living area.

Hi Tapan,
Did you get any quote for SB10 or SB12 from Audire? BTW what's your room size?

Yes got a quote from Audire. They are quite prompt and gave me a price (I think it is the same price as published here some time ago) 36k for the SB10 and 46.8k for the SB12 with free delivery to the doorstep.

@mods - By the way the search feature of the forum seems to discard the 3 letter words from the string (no way of searching for svs)

i didnt like the MS subs. tried an entry level (some 20k change), as well as their performance series.
if you are looking for movies in a large room, go for a ported sub instead of sealed.

If possible listen to the MS Aviano 9. Its real ground shaking. Looking for a second opinion on this.

I can vouch for two subs with confidence, one of which i own whereas the other one was bought by a close friend on my advice. These are the lithos Q-bic sub with an external amp 150w monoblock amp in bridged mode made by australian audio video monitor/sonodyne. price 30k. The second is a purely active hsu stf1, though the downfiring driver lies exposed at the bottom with aport at the rear. another great sub for its price about usd350, I think.

I had ordered for a satin black SB12 . But seems it was out of stock and hence Audire was happy to provide a free upgrade to a Satin Gloss finish. The sub arrived yesterday.
The buying experience has been a pleasure, thanks to Sharad and Sandeep. Am yet to plug in the new one. Shall update over the weekend on the performance!

I think I will go ahead with the order. Sandeep of Audire opined that the difference betwwen the PC12 and the SB 12 is only cosmetic. The specs do mention that the SB 12 goes all the way down to 20Hz. Well I am also considering some speakers from SVS towards home theater use but still undecided as I have not got any user reviews for the same.

As per my understanding SB12 (Sealed Box) will give you more accurate bass but PB12 (Ported Box) and PC12 (Ported Cylinder) will give you slightly more bass.

Decision between PB or PC can be taken based on the preference related to front firing or down firing, space availability (horizontal or vertical) etc.

Note:PB12-NSD is being redesigned, shipment will start in this quarter or next quarter.

Sandeep had also commented that Sealed box version would blend easily with the speakers. And that the sub would defy its size when it comes to performance

Waiting for your review. Do post your impressions wih both music and movies and do especially concentrate on the movie part as that is where I will put my 90%.

For excellent sound that won't break the bank, the 5 Star Award Winning Wharfedale Diamond 12.1 Bookshelf Speakers is the one to consider!
