Hi to all

My question to all of you experts out there is, are there any sub woofers specifically for just audio? Meaning, there primary purpose is for only 2.1 channel sound. My understanding is that a sub woofer is mostly designed for Home theater (to produce non musical sound).

If there are so then can anyone suggest the brand and model Nos.

(I hope I got my question right):o

"Non-musical" :)
The one that I am aware is audioengine subwoofer like AS8. Any sub with tight accurate non boom sound can be coupled with 2 channel audio but that is quite a task. Making sub to gel with 2.0 is back breaking task.

What is the rest of your system? Speakers.. amp.

Since you have not mentioned a budget, I'll name a REL - a stadium or a studio. Nothing can beat a REL sub for audio.

Our forum member Gobble has Rel sub, you can check with him. I have velodyne CHT 12 and I am enjoying it to the core for music and movies. :)

BTW all subwoofers are specifically build just for audio and sound, no video showing sub ever made till now :ohyeah:

Just kidding

As ShaQ suggested, SVS and HSU produce best subwoofer in market. But thay are quit heavy to carry and for purse too:).. more than 40K with starting.. If you pick the budget SUB then check for Sunfire..wharfedale..Kef.. B&W,JL audio so onnn.

Coming to you original query "Sub are mostly for Movies" this is not the actual fact..

SUB produced the low frequency, which a Bookshelf or Floor standing cannot do ..Moreover the low Low frequency produced in Bookshelf or Floor standing can be blooming which could affect even the medium and high frequency in it.. So if you love music and audiophile they try audition a SUB effect over two way system,, U never miss to carry that Sub to your home..

First let us know about your budget and room size,,,we have lots of FM's here who crazy about SUB option,, and will throw more light on your choice..

All the best for your purchase

@Kitty, Sorry i forgot to mention about the Rel(One of the Awesome Sub's) and velodyne, in previous post, apologies missing those mosnters:licklips:

For Sub -the placement is very important - I am still experimenting and some time it is absolutely middle of the room that is working better .

For Brand , older RELs as mentioned by Thirthankar are very good option for music.

Thanks

I heard that Sealed Subs are more suitable for Music than ported ones.

You can audition and decide. SB series subs from SVS are sealed subs.

Rel subs are very good for audio. Lot of people who visited my place were not able to figure out if the the sub was on or not.

But they are on the expensive side.

Thanks

It depends on what your

budget,

room size & layout,

music-movie %age,

listening preferences,

listening hours,

neighbour tolerance quotient,
(depending on listening hours and/or content & noise levels)
(Some commonly prevalent neighbour types are depicted by
the smilies that follow)

:mad::):o:D:indifferent14::sad::ohyeah::cool: :clapping:
AND
post-audition listening preferences are, albeit not necessarily so in the given order.

(Also, please don't overlook the fact that its going to sound
different at home wrt your
room size & layout to incl relative listening position)

Some more details would be a big help to me and other FMS towards helping you decide. :)

HTH
