Hi,

I currently own Denon 2200 / Dali Zensor 7 / Dali Zensor 1/ Dali Vokal/ SVS 1000 for Sub and Pioneer BDP180. I am very much satisfied with movies but I have heard that if you really want to get the feel of music like crystal clear and live music you need to have a stereo amp connected for your tower speakers. I am planning to add Marantz PM 7005 stereo amp to my current setup. Please suggest how I can manage the settings or connection that when I am watching the movies my 5.1 is working with Denon and when I am listening music the tower speakers are also working with Marantz. Please suggest the best way for configuration of Denon and Marantz. Both should be connected to my Pioneer BDP180. Also suggest some good options for Stereo Amp for good music.

Hi, this is quite tricky and difficult to master usually. It has been discussed at length in other posts. However I will give you my experience, best way to do this is to connect the AVR front L&R preamp outputs to a Stereo Power Amp (whose SQ u prefer) and run the calibration. Of course you should like the preamp outputs of the AVR or else the situation will be a bit complicated. Essentially you use your AVR to switch sources like CD, tuner, STB and you enjoy best of both.

Alternatively you can connect an integrated amp to AVR and switch sources between your BDP or AVR but experts believe that this arrangement distorts easily as the integrated also processes the signal that too coming at a higher voltage than reqd.

I tried my hand in integrating my NAD power amp to my Yamaha and then the Onkyo. I experimented a bit to change the Onkyo sound signature. However the results were not very good that too comes at a cost of increasing the source volumes everytime u need to change and it was cumbersome to say the least.

Better way is to have two setups - strictly my opinion. I have a step motherly outlook towards HT as I even used my car speakers for surrounds but you may be a more serious user of HT. I usually connect the cheaper units to AVR and use the best ones for stereo. This has worked for me till now but best way would be to go for a high end AVR which does justice to music as well.

If the PM7005 has pre-in facility i.e. if it can work as a power amp to the AVR then you truly have the best of both worlds. But I am not sure that it has that feature, just check that once.

Experts may chip in more, hope it helps you.

Believe what you see and not go by what you "hear"..I see that you already have a capable system - good AVR, better speakers & subwoofer too..

Please share with us on how you listen to stereo.. What is your source?

Having such a capable system, i suggest you to experiment your system first and if you are still not convinced, you can consider adding amplifier..

The grass is always greener on the other side.
Work with your existing system, it seems like a capable setup.

Cheers,
