I wanna connect my onkyo 807 to Polk's TSI 500/200/CS20 total length of the cable may be 35 meters so which one to buy minimum and second hand option is also welcome.

MX has new cable series which can be VFM.Other from Banbridge is good too.
Even DAC has good cables.

Seem there is huge debate on this. With my new Oknyo TX-NR5007 system due to arrive in a couple of days, I am gonna try out normal copper cables of 16-18 gauge (which I have as leftover stock) and see if the so-called costlier audiophile wires do indeed make a difference. While the quality of copper used may increase/decrease the resistance, not sure the cost justifies the improvement in sound quality.

Must read:
Speaker Wire

Can experts here clarify if normal electrical wires (finolex types) can be used for speaker wiring? The above link suggests so. Alternately, if I use the costlier cable for electrical wiring, is it supposed to lower my electricity bill and glow my bulbs brighter???

So called costlier hi-end speaker cables are one of the biggest scam perpetuated by the big companies. Unless someone can prove laws of physics to be wrong, ordinary 14-16 AWG speaker wire, which costs 1/10th of the costlier hi-end cables will work just fine. There are numerous threads in avsforums, even in the Ultra Hi-End HT gear section (upward of $20000), where members swear by regular speaker wire and have done numerous blind comparison tests and not found any difference in performance.

While I agree that there are a lot of cable makers selling snake oil cables, I'm pretty sure that not all cables are alike. I have purchased a 16 gauge OFC cable from USA at Delhi about 10 years back and a 14 gauge purported OFC cable at Chennai an year back. The 16 gauge cable sounds so awful when compared to the thinner and older cable that it is easily perceived. I can demonstrate this if anyone is interested.

Buy mogami cable in bulk from an online store and get it shipped to India, it will workout real cheap, the cables are made in japan and the quality of copper used is top notch.

I think there is also a distributor for mogami here in India.

The 4sq mm. speaker cable is only avilable with the distributor. Prices were Rs. 325 per mtr when i inquired about 6 to 8 months back

Hi Dr. Bass
I am not sure if the 3103 is the 4 sq. mm model but thats the only cable they have and the price for the same i mentioned in my earlier post

I had decided to buy them but the lady told me that the guy who will cut the cable from the reel is not there and said she will call in some time. That call never came. So i believe somehow they are not interested in selling it or atleast not in in small quantity

Dear Sanjay as you have a doubt about audiophile speaker cables and ordinary electrical cable.
I can clear as what i know,it is not that the cable should be costlier,it is like this that if you use 1/18 cable for electricals instead of 7/20 what will happen? Similar way instead of OFC cables if you use normal copper cable there will be loss in the sound transmission and the clarity reduces because of the loss.
If we talk about the Gauge it is this way that the sound tranfer on basis of length if your length is more then you have to use thicker cable to reduce the loss and if your length is shorter you can use thinner cable also.

Now the diffrence between an ordinary cable and OFC is that.Orinary electrical cable are manufactured with the copper grade from HCL which is zero bar and Audiophile cable are Manufactured with copper grade from MMDC ,The copper of MMDC is that which is fine Drawn fine thin and soft to reduce the loss in sound Transmission but requires multicore bunching of fine thin gauge to get the thickness of 16gauge or 14 gauge as per the wattage of the Amplifier and Speakers.

What are price per meter from these brands and can I use normal 16 or 14 gauge cable made with good quality copper used?

Longest distance is 26' (8 meters apx) between speaker and AVR.

Guys do you know where i can buy 16 gauge speaker wire in Bangalore at affordable prices?

This for my onkyo 3300 5.1 home theatre

First of all congratulations on your purchase of this monster BTW how much did you pay for it and what is your opinion after your experiment with cables.

It just arrived yday. I purchased it from Amazon for USD 1479, and got it here thru borderlinx route appx USD 685, including taxes, custom duty and DHL Express 3-day shipping charges. Over landing cost comes to appx INR 1.05Lac. The same thing when asked thru a Onkyo dealer in Chennai was costing 1.74 lakhs.

BTW, the MRP in USD of this model is ~2699 USD, but a newer model 5008 is to be launched (the only difference between 5007 & 5008 being 1.4 specs HDMI able to carry 3D Video signals - who want it anyway)..as such 5007 prices have dived down drastically with the new model launch.

Have'nt purchased the speakers yet...will take about a week..have tested the same by connecting Video...the upconversion of Tata SKY+ (SD signal) to full 1080P is amazing quality..

Cables..ummm - let me first get the speakers...meanwhile, am researching on this as far as possible to see if indeed high-cost cables do make a difference.

You got great deal for a marvelous piece of hardware I even saw USD 1199 for same there but I could not get my Citibank account in time required for borderlinx transaction so I settled with Onkyo 807.
