All,
I sent an email to Tata Sky's CEO Vikram Kaushik ([email protected]) regarding various issues that I was facing, and as a pleasant surprise, within a matter of few hours of sending the email I received a call from the CEO Office. Though the interaction didn't solve any of the problems, I felt it was a good gesture on their part to make a call and explain for about 30 minutes. The following were discussed:
1. No new Telugu channels are being added.
Answer: We are unable to add any more Telugu channels because of severe bandwidth issues. However, we take your inputs, we have our own surveys on the popularity of the channels...etc. So addition of new Telugu channels is purely subject to the bandwidth availability. (I wonder how they are adding other English new channels though. May be they will look into the popularity and their profit margins before deciding on adding any particular channel.
2. SVBC (Sri venkateswara Bhakti Channel) is being broadcast only in a small window and not in full scteen. Many people feel it stressful for eyeys, and are irritated.
Answer: This is also due to bandwidth issue. Lesser bandwidth is consumed if channels are broadcast in smaller window.
3. In TataSky+, if we recorded a program in a channel, and later change to a package that doesn't contain that channel, the recording will not be accessible to you. When you try to play the program later, it gives a message " You are not subscribed to this channel...".
Answer: This is purely a technical issue and the technical team is in the process of sorting it out. (However I clearly see this as a business tactic to make sure that the subscriber subscribes to the package for as long as possible)
4. Tata Sky website allows you to add packages, but if you want to "drop" a package, you have to call-up the Customer Service. Dropping a package is not possible through internet. This is clearly a tactic to create that "inconvenience" in the minds of the subscribers and discourage them to drop a package so easily.
Answer: No real satisfactory answer was given by the CEO Office for this question. However they said that we can drop a package just by sending a request to "[email protected]" from our "registered email address".
5. Tata Sky+ is theoritically capable of carrying HD, as it contains Component outputs, Digital Optical port for audio...etc. Then why Tata Sky is asking the subscribers to buy a new HD Box separately?
Answer: We need to see various things, however I am not aware of the technical details. We will get back to you on this.
Hope this helps to clarify some of the queries that you may be having in mind.
Note: A representative from CEO Office (Named Nityanand) called me, and not the CEO himself.
