TATA Sky HD Plus

I tried immediately after updating to 106. Still not working :( My HDMI cable is connected to the TV as my AVR do not support HDMI input.

If AVR does not support HDMI input how are you verifying that the HDMI audio is NOT 5.1?

Please go through my posts buddy. I am testing it through the TV and NOT 5.1 but DD audio which should give me a faithful 2.0 for my headphones and TV speakers listening with or without SRS WOW Surround!

Do you wanna hit me for expecting Dolby Digital audio coming to my TV? If my TV does the decoding, I can avoid any possible jitter and losses through the FFT volume adjustments by the STB!

Do you REALLY get 5.1 audio through your AVR or is it that seeing DD5.1 on its display gives you the high? As ESPN HD and Star Cricket is mostly mono and other HD channels are joining the club with several SD ones already there with mono audio.

You state everywhere that its not capable of doing 5.1 over HDMI and technically you are wrong because it can and it does so definitely.
The issue you are speaking of are related to the actual content of each of 5.1 channels for some or all channels and you should not term these as Tata sky not capable of doing 5.1 over HDMI because that is technically wrong. That issue will remain whether you use HDMi/optical/coaxial. But the fact it can do 5.1 over HDMi does not change due to the issues you mention.

Dear Friends,
iam Planing to Buy Tatasky +, is it a Good Buy @3999/-What about HD Quality? Users Pls. Suggest.

Regards
Jeffin

Hi jeffin, Tatasky HD is good, picture and sound quality is great. also, important factor is that HD channels are coming up with Dolby Digital 5.1 support so it really adds to your HD experience and Tata Sky supports the same. If you are looking at a complete entertainment experience then I suggest that you should go for it.

You really think I am lame and talking of two different things. That 5.1 content is ANOTHER issue I talked as a side note and I am sorry if I confused you. Talking of DD Passthrough, it DOESN'T work on my STB through HDMI. PERIOD! It might be due to my setup with the TV (handshake issue), but the switch do not function and how did you infer I am talking of content here?

Please do understand that I am not a layman talking about these things here. If it works for you, you are one of the lucky few who got it working and are happy with the horrible audio on half of the HD and rest of SD channels. And its not the content I talked which are originally in Mono, I meant Tatasky downconverting them to Mono and presenting as 5.1 or stereo to us!

You always combine capability of the box over HDMI with the quality of content and you have done it again above. Find a post be anywhere on this forum where I have negated the content issue and I will give my HD STB free to you!

On all my notes I am writing DD pass through is not working from my STB through HDMI and in addition I point to ANOTHER issue where both the sports channels from ESS are broadcasted mostly in Mono and some others are plagued by DRC menace. I intentionally highlight this part as an education that its not that great even if you do get DD pass through. More than DD passthrough, DRC is the biggest menace followed by Mono audio on most of the prime channels I had highlighted earlier. Where did I confused you, I keep getting lost!

AND I believe you are also a Tatasky PLUS HD user and I am fighting this battle with them spending endless hours almost each day to get them disable such processing and let us enjoy original audio and here you are fighting with me for UNKNOWN reason???

To almost every post where any member asks if Tatasky HD+ can do DD over HDMI you give a outright rejection whereas it is confirmed by not only be but by atleast 2 others that it works.

I was curious to know how you were able to verify connecting STB to TV and hence I asked questions. It seems you get a high flaming at members as your battle is nowhere near end?

@amol,prankey

Let us not fight in this forum, we all are Tatasky+ HD users.

We all are suffering from the DRC issue and prankey is actively fighting to remove it, he is also interacting with Tatasky senior officials.

Atleast they enabled DD over HDMI which is a good news for us, unfortunately it is not working for Prankey.

Mostly I watch Star Movies HD and news channels, rarely I watch SD movies - hence DRC issue is less sever for me. Even though DRC is reducing the audio quality it is not that bad in my Home Theater setup compared to what is reported by Prankey from his TV sound.

Hope Tatasky will remove DRC soon

I did that initially when I dint see your posts. After I confirmed through you, HTuser also confirmed which REALLY gives me hope there as I see hope if I move to an HDMI capable AVR - especially to get DD+ when it is enabled on TS+HD.

And yes, like you infer - I am MOST furious on TS for doing such butchering of audio on most of the channels and giving mono audio on several key ones. They are in regular touch with me claiming that they are working on this, however I have already escalated this matter to the consumer court at Bangalore and will be fighting a legal battle if they do not disable such audio processing from their end.

They have finally accepted that they were not doing DRC and AVL till around November 2007 when there were about 2000 tickets from users complaining of volume difference during channel switching (as each channel has different volume level and dynamic range). They followed this route of DRC and AVL after getting so many complaints from us (the subscribers). I see DRC disabled in NDTV Good Times now (voice is bit distorted, they may need to reduce the volume on these channels). They basically have to set the volume right MANUALLY to ensure that users do not complaint of such variation.

I see DRC worst on some channels like BBC Entertainment, Sony, NDTV Profit, etc. Mono audio on Zee, AXN, HBO, PIX, Discovery, Nat Geo, etc.

Currently I only get better audio without any noticable DRC on Movies Now, Times Now and NDTV Good Times. All music channels are affected (except Active Music service). VOD do not have DRC while older TVoD does.

An average user, like we know now do not know if these issues/non issues. I wonder for whom Tatasky is doing such audio processing when an average user really do not give a damn on these things.

Regarding HDMI DD pass through, it can very well work through HDMI to a TV as TVs have several surround processors and even if we do not enable them, decoding by the TV will result in a marginally better audio quality than getting PCM through HDMI. But my current priority is entirely to get them disable DRC from all the channels.

HTuser - they or Star team at their premises have started doing heavy DRC on fillers like Movie in Focus on Star Movies HD and on Star World HD cutscenes, Songs on Star Plus HD and Star Gold HD etc. It is random at times, but quite regular now. Fortunately, they are still maintaining metadata for Standard and Maximum DR in DD streams for prime content (even when some of them telecast in 3.1 mono). All 4 "Asli HD" channels are mastered at TS uplinking facility as told by the CTO contact I am currently working with.

I am facing a strange issue over last few days in Tata Sky + HD. The video is not being displayed full screen. In channels like Pogo, MTV and other SD channels. There are vertical black side bars in the displayed picture. The display resolution in settings is 1080i and stretch option is enabled with HD 16:9 aspect ratio.

1. some of my old videos which i recorded sometime back somehow got automatically deleted. :(((((

2. to see the oldest recorded video you have to scroll all the way down. is there any easy way . :(

Check if you are connected through Component or Composite :) Happens with me when someone accidentally switch to Component which gives SD picture and hence SD settings apply.

1. Were you out of disk space? There is a bug in The recent software version when deleting an episode through series sub menu deletes the entire series link with all the episodes (without the 2 confirmation dialogs). Has happened 4 times with me :(

2. There is no other way and I have requested them to make the list "circular" and add more sorting option.

Well the STB is connected via HDMI. I changed the display resolution to 576i and then 576p and finally reset it back to 1080i, do not know how to explain it but the issue was gone. Not sure if it was the TV which failed to upscale at times or stretch function of STB was failing.

Anyone facing this issue on specifically ESPN HD? Where the image seems to be flickering or jittering. If I was to concentrate and look at the ESPN HD logo - it is jumping up and down. This is quite annoying to the extent that it is the only HD channel that is not clear. Have called up Customer Care and the usual - this is only a problem with ESPN. Check for a day and get back etc. Will check and call again today.

Yeah its been like that for ESPN HD for past 3 days. looks like they done the same thing to star cricket from today.

Wish those morons just stop messing with the HD channels.

My HD+ was connected with a single cable from dish LNB and it was split using a splitter into two near the box. Today I got a call saying that they are replacing the splitter with 2 cables from LNB.

Techs came in the evening and they replaced the LNB with one having 4 connections (i have multiroom) and brought in one more cable connecting to the HD+ STB.

The tech told me that this was required for monsoons. The call center guy told me this is an upgrade in preparation for a new satellite with more HD channels.

Hopefully soon... march-2012 was the talked about time-frame on this forum for TS to get more bandwidth and increase the number of HD channels.

The call center guy said that they are going to get more bandwidth, better quality, more content and more HD channels but did not specify a time-frame.
