menu looks cool ( from orangish yellow to cool looking blue )
remote is more responsive ( less lag time)
volume issue fixed ( volume level between HD and SD channels)
sound level increased ( say few db of sound increase)
page option added.
new menu is guide mode.

overall.. SD channels looks a lil better than before ( my assumtion)

today 4 more HD channels added...

update if i missed something.. i was able to check it for sometime after that i slept say bout morning 4 am.

din't notice any major issue or flaw...

I have HD STB (not HD+). Mine has not been updated. Receiver version is still some June 2010 version. I tried downloading it manually by pressing back twice and 2465. But it did not work

Guys,

I have tata sky HD (not the +) I manually did dowload the new software by process mentioned by some one in this forum. Well the result is that though pix quality has improved a bit but the sound is no longer Dolby Digital for HD channels. The CC has no idea. Can any one help? please. Can I go back to older software?

yes it does say tata sky+ thats why i got confused yesterday night but looking at the changes i forgot to mention that..

It's possible that the 'preferred audio' setting in the 'sound settings' on your STB got changed during the software update.

Do the following:
1. Press 'Organiser' on your remote.
2. Select 'User Settings'.
3. Select 'Sound Settings'.
4. Check the 'Preferred Audio' setting. It will state either 'Dolby' or 'PCM'. In case it is 'Dolby' then leave it alone, but if it is 'PCM' change it to 'Dolby'.
5. Save the setting by pressing the 'blue' button on the remote.

Hopefully this helps. Good luck.

Hope this new software on TS HD do not bring the HDMI Audio output bug from TS+HD (Only PCM 2.0, no Dolby Digital through HDMI).

I am facing the same issue... I upgraded and now no Dolby sound  repenting for what have i done...... any solutions for getting the old firmware back

The new firmware update is a good eye-candy. It also fixed the HD channel volume issue for me. Earlier I could not increase/decrease volume of HD channels via TS remote, but now I can. I sorely miss the favourites cycling though.

Its NOT a FIX, dude. Its a bug which is passed from TS+HD! Now you are getting PCM output through HDMI and hence you can set the volume from TS Remote! You could have done it earlier as well by setting the HDMI or coaxial output to PCM (this lets TS STB decode Dolby Digital Sound before passing through HDMI or coax and hence volume control will work).

Otherwise, as highlighted earlier several times on multiple posts, volume inside a Dolby Digital bitstream can not be changed UNLESS you DECODE it.

Actually, I am not sure that this is totally correct. Because, if I remember correctly, I have always been able to control the volume level via the HDMI output, that is even before the software update. But then again, I have the HDMI output going directly to my TV and I ahve been using the coaxial output to the AVR for DD audio. Unfortunately, I am unable to test the HDMI output for DD, since my receiver does not have HDMI inputs.

Sanjay - Dolby Digital is Digital "DATA" before it gets converted to PCM sound and eventually Analog Audio. PCM Audio can be controlled digitally using Fast Fourier Transforms (any sound modification like equalization, pitch changes also happens through FFTs). Only way to do it would be to decode DD stream to PCM and control the volume and possible recode to DD which will result in more lossy sound due to multiple compression applied. Hence, ideally no Audiophile targeted equipment allows such tampering of DD/DTS bitstreams before they get finally decoded by the AVR.

Gist - There is NO WAY a DIGITAL DATA can be "volume" controlled. Before DD/DTS is decoded, NO equipment can change anything within it..

Guys,

just to update, the TS engineer visited home yesday and changed the HDMI to recevier connect to Coax (HDMI directly to TV now) and Dolby sound came back. Strange!

What's happening here. Some technical lights please.

Its a TS+HD firmware bug. That is how we get DD from HD channels currently. I am working with them to get this fixed at the earliest.

Can't imagine how they release firmware missing such IMPORTANT feature.

Hi, will the DD5.1 work when directly fed to AVR / TV, via an optical cable? Sorry if it sounds a dumb question. Thanks.
Yes, but don't bother purchasing an optical connection. Its BETTER to use any available RCA cable (like Audio, video or component cable) to connect to the AVR till HDMI starts supporting it..
