Tata Sky HD software update (old version)

Why does the title of this thread refer to the 'TataSky HD' STB as the "(old version)"? There is nothing old about it, as it is very much as current as the 'TataSky+ HD' STB. The more appropriate way to differentiate between the two STBs is using the terms DVR and non-DVR.

Guys,

I have tata sky HD (not the +) I manually did dowload the new software by process mentioned by some one in this forum. Well the result is that though pix quality has improved a bit but the sound is no longer Dolby Digital for HD channels. The CC has no idea. Can any one help? please. Can I go back to older software?

I got the same exact problem. I have my AVR always showing STEREO and PCM instead of DD :( Any ideas?

Connect the STB to the AVR via Coaxial cable instead of HDMI. Let the HDMI cable be connected directly to the TV. This "should" send Dolby Digital to the AVR.

well i have had it for quite some time now..

tat sky HD+ came with the world cup.. and tata sky HD came long back last year... for me its old..

regarding the technical terms yes i would have metioned.. dint come to my mind that time.. apology.

Yup mine was updated didnt remember the date but now the menu look great(not dull like the previous one) also i came to notice that star HD pack was also added after the update of software(AFIK it has nothing to do with software update)

dont have any AVR so nothing has changed as far as sound part is concerned, i think Video of SD channels has also been improved.

same here i have noticed the video quality in SD channels increased.. .coz m a die hard turbo fan and it looks a slight better now.. more refined.. guess the decrytion and upscaling is better now ..

My HD box also got updated automatically, the way the favorites behave now has changed. Also i see a bump up in volume of channels. Apart from that have not faced any issues, will check if audio miss is still happening on the movie hd channels or not.

Mine too got updated to +. But it has an issue, the brightness level has increased. Between channel changes one can see the screen more whitish. More irritating during night viewing. Also notices the the channel change takes more time to pop up.

yuo now 9999 available.. guess they have increased the limits of channels in the stb to be futuresafe.. as new channels will be added this year..

Yes this is a very irritating feature of TS+HD as well. When you switch channels, you get a GREY screen instead of a black one... This should get fixed ASAP.

Hope this new software on TS HD do not bring the HDMI Audio output bug from TS+HD (Only PCM 2.0, no Dolby Digital through HDMI).

yes bug is now affected my Tata Sky Hd.. Software updated yesterday,Audio setting is Dolby but now receiver is showing/playing only Stereo over HDMI.. I want old version back..

Sanjay - Dolby Digital is Digital "DATA" before it gets converted to PCM sound and eventually Analog Audio. PCM Audio can be controlled digitally using Fast Fourier Transforms (any sound modification like equalization, pitch changes also happens through FFTs). Only way to do it would be to decode DD stream to PCM and control the volume and possible recode to DD which will result in more lossy sound due to multiple compression applied. Hence, ideally no Audiophile targeted equipment allows such tampering of DD/DTS bitstreams before they get finally decoded by the AVR.

Gist - There is NO WAY a DIGITAL DATA can be "volume" controlled. Before DD/DTS is decoded, NO equipment can change anything within it..

Yes I confirm that.. I was not able to adjust volume using TS remote when watching HD channels I always have to adjust volume using my Denon remote, but after new software upgrade I am able to control the volume using TS remote. That means sound sent over hdmi is not DD even when setting has been selected as Dolby.

I have raised ticket with CC, they are going to send engineer to check issue lets see what solution he provides.

Haha, now the engineer will come and ask to you connect using the coaxial cable! They are UNNECESSARILY WASTING MONEY by raising such TICKETS and sending onsite engineer. They do this to everyone who complains about this. Not sure when will they fix this critical bug.

Make sure you do not get charged for such visit as I have seen some getting charged for it!

overall look and feel of new software is good. but there is a lag when key in the channel number. for channel 555, if we enter exactly 555 then it takes a while to change channels. but if enter 0555, it changes immediately. they need to fix this problem as well

this is not a problem.. its just normal as now 9999 channels are available.. the stb waits for a second to detect input for the 4th digit.

once it sees no input it directs you to the new channel..

thats the same case as you mentioned that when u enter 0555 it goes instantly..

Hi,
I am really happy about the new HD channels on Tata Sky, I appreciate the fact that "HD" support in India is brilliant as of now:clapping:, but i have a small bug to report.
I connect mt STB through my Onkyo HTS3300, and i used to enjoy HD channels in Dolby Surround.:yahoo: However after the new update, the audio channel is no more "Dolby" for me:sad:, i need to manually set it to "Dolby Pro Logic II" or Stereo. What do i do?? Need yor help.:sos:

I think u have connected ur STB to AVR via HDMI cable for both audio and video input, try it with a optical cable for audio input and thing ll be fine

This is a bug discussed several times in this thread and various forums. After the recent software upgrade, TS HD is affected by the same bug as TS+HD.

Use ANY CHEAP RCA cable to connect to your AVR for the time being to get DD5.1 output. Assign that Coax port on your AVR to that HDMI port for audio.
