Ha at last got my tata sky hd activated today

at present only 3 hd channels

ngc hd, discovery hd, showcase hd, belive me the picture quality is amazing

as far as sd is concerned there is quite a improvement in picture quality as well.

And as far as sound quality is concerned i have not connected a coaxial to my onkyo txsr 504, so cant comment on it as of now

but hey hd is wow!!!!!!!!!!

I am really happy with the picture quality.

I have not tested the usb ports ill get back to u guys later when i do.

Babu, thanks for the 1st hand review. Liked the size of HD digicomp. I am using the same Old digicomp and I didnt go for TataSky+ because its digicomp is bigger in size. I dont have place to keep on TV set.

Good to know that the HD digicomp is compact and powerful. And thanks again to indicate that this comes with a HDMI cable.

Awaiting for this product to be launched in Bangalore.

Btw, earlier you had regular TS or TS+? What did you do to your old digicomp?

What is the programming on 'Showcase HD'? Also, can you please confirm whether the one or all three HD channels have Dolby Digital 5.1 sound. I believe, unlike 'SunDirect HD' ('Discovery HD', 'National Geographic HD' and 'Tamil Video HD' channel all have DD 5.1 sound), 'BIG TV HD' & 'Dish Tru HD' do not have Dolby Digital 5.1 sound on any of their HD channels.

That would be 'Colors' and no it is not in HD. Actually there is no such channel, i.e. Colors HD. Even on 'SunDirect HD', what they have is a 'FAKE/Pseudo' HD channel which is actually the regular Colors SD channel, that has been 'upscaled' only and to make matters worse they have actually distorted the picture totally by stretching the original 4:3 aspect ratio to fill a 16:9 screen. What you end up with is fat and squished actors.

Personally, I find the Fake/Pseudo channels totally unwatchable due to the distortion of the picture, all in the pursuit of filling up the 16:9 aspect ratio of HD. Actually I think the real reason for stretching the 4:3 picture to fill the 16:9 screen is simply to further mislead the average joe customer into believing that it is a HD channel. Although I am praying that it is not so, but I am afraid, TataSky HD is probably doing the same thing with their 'Star Plus HD' and 'Star Movies HD' channels. SunDirect HD has started this abhorrent practise of terming Fake/PSeudo 'upscaled' channels as HD and the other DTH operators are simply following suit. 'Zee TV HD' and 'Zee Cinema' on Dish Tru HD are also similiarly 'upscaled' channels only. Not sure about the aspect ratio part with Tata Sky and Dish Tru HD.

Sadly, it appears that Tata Sky HD sets will be available only in Delhi/ Mumbai/ Chennai intially.
What worries me is what the charges for the HD service will be after the intial " Introductory" period is over: In the UK / EU charges were roughly 10 per month only for receiving the HD service plus the other channel charges.

I also hope that the HD channels will not use the horrible large programme advt bubbles that often cover 1/3 of the screen.

Doesn't anyone have a Dolby Digital 5.1 setup? Would appreciate it if someone could confirm whether the HD channels on TataSky HD have Dolby Digital 5.1 sound. Also, does TataSky have their horrendously large LOGO on the HD channels also?

PS: SunDirect HD has DD5.1 sound on all their REAL HD channels. Dish Tru HD on the other hand does not have support for DD5.1 on any channel.

Component cable can carry only video signals unlike HDMI.

The HD box was delivered yesterday but the promised installation today is not happening.Its scheduled only for tomorrow(sunday).Once it happens i will try to answer some questions posted here. I will test the 5.1 sound in HD channels too.Glad ESPN has been added.Can watch the soccer worldcup in HD.

yes the cable was REPLACED along with LNB on the dish
