well, in my very humble opinionif it works for you, it's good for you. The guy/ girl listening to the system needs to be happy with it. So if a cable change elevates you, great & go for it.
Common sense is only a guideline. Eventually, av is about emotion.
okay, one quick question - for existing tatasky users upgrading to hd- you get a new stb, right? - do you get also get a new subscriber card?.. The reason i ask is, i'm evaluating a move to hd, but i'd want to keep my existing stb to attach to another tv.
The customer care person i spoke to was rather confused, so i did not get a clear response from him. So any feedback would be great

hey ur subscriber id will be same, and you can retain your old stb.

I was able to get the TataSky HD HTB from pai international Jayanagar in Bangalore yesterday. Installation is scheduled for tommorow. Pai international had 4 pieces of the same. When i spoke to the TataSky customer care before buying from pai international, i was told that it is not yet available in Bangalore.

Hi this is vijay frm hyd, I can proudly say that Im the first custoomer of tatsky HD in Andhrapradesh, it was installed on monday 21st june .It costs only 2599.in ap they are giving south value pack and HD gold pack with espn starsports and zee telugu cahnnel free for two months. I was waiting for tata sky HD since I bought my Full HD sony bravia NX 32 tv.I have to say that the HD clarity is mindblowing.Currently they are broadcasting 4 HD channels.Discovery HD,Nat Geo HD, ESPN FIFAHD,Starsporrts wimbledon HD.really I was dying to watch FIFA worldcup in HD.Up to now there are no problems whatever withs this HD box.I recommend to all the HD lovers get on with this pack.My no.8121267245.
I had called the Tata Sky CC people on the 19th (saturday) and ordered their HD service. I payed 2600 through my credit card on the phone itself. The CC people promised me a delivery within 48 hours. Moments after I ended the convseration, the Tata Sky dealer(?) called me and said it may take 2-3 days for him to get the box and set it up for me. I said ok - no big deal.
I waited for 2 days. No call from the dealer. I called him back to ask him what was going on. He sai they still hadn't received the HD box, and it might take another couple of days. Next day, I called the CC people again. Some woman picked up. She said that there's a big shortage, and it'll take 5 more working days. I asked to speak to her superior directly after that. The 'team leader' spoke to me and said that it'll likely be a couple of days, but she would connect me to the sales dept. They also said only 2-3 days more.
Today, I decided would be the make-or-break situation. I called the dealer again. Difficult to get a hold of him. Rejected my calls a couple of times before answering. He said that he'll call me when it comes, but he doesn't expect for another 4-5 days. Now, I was totally put off with this whole experience. I thought I'd give TS one last chance. I called CC once more and asked them how much longer. They said 6-7 working days.
Last straw. I cancelled the order. Waiting for them to debit my money back now. I'm very disappointed with Tata Sky and their false promises.

I am also not satisfied with TATA service, but what to do, all other operators fall in the same catagory more or less.........when can we get world class customer service when we Indians always pay the double to buy any A/V gear ?

Yea I can understand the frustration, It is always advisable to get the STB from a retail shop, that way you pay and get the box then and there, else you dont pay. You only pay if they have the box with them. Once you have the box call the CC and schedule an installation telling them you already have the box and just need to get the installation done.

I called up CC several times, and they said the HD STB is not launched in kolkata yet. But I cud get it through a dealer, the Tata Sky CC guy gave the dealers no., It was Capital Chowrangee in Esplande. I called up the dealer, he said he has it, but wen i went there, he said he was sorry and it ll be 4-5 days before it arrives, and he'll give me a call when it does.

I'll probably do that when I decide to make the shift to HD. The World Cup coverage convinced me to go for it. I'll probably wait another 6 odd months now for them to get some decent channels....and more importantly - HD boxes !!
I'll seriously have to look at which DTH now too. I had heard that Tata Sky's CC was the best, but this almost lackadaisical attitude of their hasn't gone down well with me.
That's what I did in Bangalore. They were home to activate it in less than two hours.

I am currently owning sony bravia 32" LCD,which is HD ready Archived KLV-32T400A : Series T : BRAVIA LCD TV : Sony India.
i am going for DTH tata sky HD.
1.Will it work for HD ready
2.If it works ,than is its picture quality better than the normal tata sky our it will improve.
3.if picture quality improves ,than does it improves that much to shed off extra Rs1100(2600-1500).

Yes to all. However, you need to look out for what channels they have once the world cup ends. They may have 4 channels now, but after a couple of weeks - they'll just have NGC HD and Discovery HD (in addition to a showcase channel in HD, but I'm not sure how many movies they'll add to that).
If you like football/tennis and really want to see the WC/Wimbledon, go ahead (provided you can buy a box yourself from some retailer). It's a pretty good deal in that respect.
Tata Sky CC is good, but I use it only when other options are out. Most of the times I rely on the dealer

2. He came and installed the STBs and Dish in 2 days time and set up everything. He did not even talk of payment till he had finished his job and everything was working fine. I paid the money right at the end.
3. He even comes home for any small issue or recharges. Now I have ordered the HD box from him. He has said it will take time but order has been placed. Delay is there and I expect it to take a week at least.

Can try this Kolkata Dealers
Though I almost have tried everyone and the box is still not available to them. So I guess we need to wait at least 5/6 moe days.

Mine is working now. ESPN and Star Sports HD don't telecast anything when the matches (world cup or wimbledon) are not on. I finally got them to install it after much pestering. If you already have a box the installation is a cinch. You just need to disconnect the cable from the antenna from your existing box and plug it into the HD box, it will download the software. Then the Tata Sky guys have to 'activate' it remotely.
By the way, I still have a tata sky plus box which I would like to use, is there something we can do like using a splitter?
