TataSky HD Vs Airtel HD?

"Ability to choose each channel independently to create a package ............. correct me if I am wrong is only there in TS ..."

JFYI... If I recollect correctly Airtel has this ability to pick and choose while for TS we need to buy complete pack of channels together even if we want only some channels. Just heard it, not sure.

Option to choose individual channels is present in Tatasky also.. but fairly expensive ..!!!

JFYSI as well. TS introduced this feature long time back and was the first one to do so as well ......... and yes you CAN pick independent channels and create a package ....

I have TS SD since 4 years.
But since last few months, I feel that there's something wrong with the sound. And now I realise, that it could possibly be because of excessive compression in their audio signals. The audio sounds just like typical compressed content i.e. not loud enough at low volumes and too loud but still unclear at high volumes.

One difference I found was, when you subscribe to HD pack of Tata Sky, you get all HD channels and event based channels as well (like Set Max HD, Star cricket HD - for world cup at that time).

Airtel didn't provide event based channels free - correct me if I am wrong.

When i made this decision, with all the packages and features, ADTV was the best. However, they have an issue with their signal and the dish needs to be alligned at a particular angle which at times is not possible. That was the case with me too. THere was tumultous period of around 3 weeks when they tried sending a barrage of engineers, technicians but could not achieve the desired result.

They did return the money though. I had to go with Tata Sky. However, i dont regret the decision now as the service is really extraordinary and the signal quality is also good. THe only hitch is mumbai monsoons when the connection gets screwed! but that is with all dish connections i understand

Hey In your business case your requirement is a DTH service that can do justice your hi end televisions picture quality. In that case if few like only star channels and national geographic then go for TATA Sky else airtel because they have a wide spectrum of HD channels.

Also I can say that since I own both with annual packs and feel cheated by Tata Sky because of 6000 Bucks for the annual packs and no channel I watch on HD. If you like Saas Bahu stories and want your idiot box to only showcase it then any TV or any connection would work. Why do you need HD for that?

Service , Serously when do you call for service and when do you have a problem with DTH. Rarely once or twice a year if you are paying regularly and that too an exaggerated figure so why worry; look what's cheaper ; what gives you higher number of HD channels and buy it.

Hi,
I will be getting a HD connection for Sony Bravia EX300 TV.

I have shortlisted Tata Sky and Airtel.

I have read following things about both: Thanks!
Fyi, I did not have Airtel, but, just in case, if this bit of info is useful for you...

I am using both Dish HD Recorder (No HDD, only USB, recording need to be enabled by calling Dish! what the heck!) and TS HD+ (500HDD, seemless record/watch/back/forth everything instant).

TS is the best period.

I had heard a lots of quality issues about Airtel HD. TS is actually the same offering as in SKY of UK. The HD+ receiver feels premium, picture quality one of the best I have ever seen (I am not an ordinary TV viewer, fyi, been in AV for some time). I am using X Series 46 Full HD and after Tata SKY, I understood, the value of my TV.

Dish TV HD - lots of channels, but, my family is so comfortable with TS recorder and its picture quality and they never bother to watch those HD Hindi serials in Dish HD! Fyi, Dish names many channels as HD, but, they are not! Not sure why! I regret buying Dish!

Lastly, TS HD+ Support is too good to be true. I can sub/unsub channels just sending SMS and it is instant. Thats convenient. The other feature I use frequently, I keep on switching packages, based on our interests. So, I call the TS support, and tell them, these are the channels i need, the calm and patient support guy/girl then will suggest the cheapest option for me and they never to over sell!
