Came across several handy tests for earphones/headphones on the web that I've summed up in this post on my blog. Folks may want to take a look - these are very basic tests but some of them are rather handy.

Useful stuff.

A visit to audiocheck.net can take hours! One interesting experiment leads to another useful test and so on and so on. However, at the end of it, one will have a much more realistic idea of one's equipment (including ears!) and listening environment. Very useful --- for speaker listening as well as headphones.

Not to rehash the same argument again, but why is it that being an engineers and/or sound professional somehow seems to qualify some people into becoming experts in giving advice on what sound is *perceived* as better?

Most music does not extend much below 40Hz. What is the point of using low-end frequency response as one of the primary indicators of headphone quality vs, say, richness and timbral accuracy of the midrange?

High-frequency sounds can be extremely fatiguing over the long run. What is the point of seeking a flat FR in the highs?

Etc. etc.

For excellent sound that won't break the bank, the 5 Star Award Winning Wharfedale Diamond 12.1 Bookshelf Speakers is the one to consider!
