Very nice observations ss rand..

Audient gear, right from their smallest EVO4 is fantastic value for money in terms of sound. I used to use an EVO4 in my office (with Adam Audio T5V monitors and a T10s subwoofer, with Canare balanced cables) to listen to music. The sound to $$$ return, when compared to a typical HiFi setup of the same or even somewhat higher $$$ outlay, is very, very high. I recently switched sources to a Streamer-DAC (that's 10 times as costly) for the convenience of listening to music without turning on my laptop. The EVO4 sounds nearly as good. (The iD4, which is just about 16k INR now, also sounds fantastic).

To add, a pro-Studio would have got the room acoustics down pat, with appropriate room treatment. And that makes a big difference.

Loved this in the article.

While both approaches border on the extreme, a balanced approach will still allocate a nice amount to the room. I have heard fantastic music in studios on gear that most audiophiles will not touch.

“It’s the room, stupid…”

If you hand $100,000 to a recording/audio engineer, he will spend 80K on the room, and 20K on the gear, while an audiophile will spend $98K on gear and tweaks, and perhaps if he’s evolved enough, $2K on the room. And an audiofool such as myself would have spent $120,000 on just the gear (after raiding $20,000 from his kid’s college fund).
