thorens td 150 or pioneer pl 990 ...which one is better

hi everyone,
I have finally decided to buy myself a new turntable and have the following two options thorens td 150 or pioneer pl 990 which seem decent to me. i wish to know your opinion on this. Also it'll be great if you could tell me whether Thorens is made in china or made in england?

Hi,

The Thorens TD150 is a great Turntable.

It was the first (arguable) suspended chasis TT.

The Linn lp12 and others copied and refined the basic design.

I would buy the TD150 if it was in good shape.

The early Thorens Turntables were made in Switzerland ,later production (mid 1960's) shifted to Germany.

A word of caution - Thorens TD-150 uses a AC motor. So if you
get one with a 60Hz motor in it, you may either have to change it
or get an appropriate 60hz supply.

This thread showed up when i typed thorens td 150 in the search bar. I got the td 150 mkii today. Happy Days!

It seems a serious table feeling the weight of the platter and the sturdiness all around. Very well balanced as the inner platter kept moving forever on a spin manually. The suspended design followed by Linn as Rajeev said in his reply in 2011. .
I ofcourse had read up a bit before the money transfer happened but this machine has exceeded my expectations.

Fortunate that the condition is this good. The only glitch is, I don't own a mm cart and the mc cart I have doesn't fit in the stock arm.
