I have a pioneer 818v receiver and the toslink optical cable connector just loosly fits in the socket. so much so that i have to put a sitcky tape just to hold it in place.

The other end goes to a wdtv live optical out, which is better but still loose. Whats going wrong , do i have a bad toslink cable (bulky and thus heavy at the connector end) ? also optical sockets not vey deep to hold them.

Please help.

thanks
sachin

Ther should be small projections at the connector ends of the cable....that falls into a slot at the source ends.Have to apply a little force to have it fit snugly into the slot.Atleast this is the case with all the optical toslink cables i had dealt with mate.....

since both end are loose I suspect fault lies with cable

if you are seeing any light coming out of the toslink slot then they are not sitting properly. Best time to check this at nite when you swtich off all lights around the receiver.

Otherwise its the cable itself. I rarely see issue with toslink connections, they are one of the most sturdiest.

are these connections repairable/replacable?
i have one speaker set with some problems

sachin, you need to push it in a bit, feel the click as it sits in place as Imrahn had mentioned. i've experienced the same initially with wdtv. and check the connectors faces properly before you place them in the socket- one side of the connector is slightly rounded.

Thanks guys. I did try pushing on both ends but as the connectors are heavy they keep slipping off, scare of pushing anymore without damaging anything :(. For now the sticky tape is doing the job and I will start looking for a light connector toslink wire in the meantime.

thanks
Sachin

Not sure what you mean by your speakers having same problem. It should be your processing unit (AVR or integrated).

Also you need to describe your problem a bit more in detail so suggestions can be offered.

ALso note that you need to push in a particular orientations, i.e, the connector flat top should be aligned with your AVR. Otherwise it wont even go in.

Also you may want to try a borrowed cable to see if its your cable. Like I said before toslink connectors are usually very good.

I have a 5.1speaker set with In built Dolby Digital/DTS Decoder in sub.(
So The set takes direct Optical/Co axial inputs
Co axial works fime optical is not responding.
So this query

A beautiful, well-constructed speaker with class-leading soundstage, imaging and bass that is fast, deep, and precise.
